Shantel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Starting high school, I had a passion for cosmetology and graduated from the course through a school technical program my junior and senior years to learn more about the hair industry. My senior year before taking my state exam to become licensed, my husband became ill while active military overseas. I completed school but wasn’t able to go take the state exam, because I had to go to KOREA to be with him.
I am the mother of three beautiful young girls and one handsome son. All having heads full of hair, I switched hairstyles on my children weekly. My children wore braids and different styles to give them different looks to embrace their beauty. Hair had to be done and there was lots of it.
Hair in our community is everything. We change hair to be different, to be creative, and to be expressive. This is where Nu You Beauty Collection began. In 2010 my family and I relocated to Georgia. I began to see and explore more hair options in the “BIG A”. BUNDLES WERE IN! Over the course of the years, I fell in love with bundles; styles to protect from heat, time-saving, different styles and colors. I have bundles installed two to three times a year, all other times I wear my natural hair. Nu You Beauty Collection is here to assist you feel your SELF-CONFIDENCE along with different hair items and products. We hope you enjoy it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. I had an idea /plan of how I wanted everything to go but struggled with my life balance between working a full-time job at the hospital, being a real estate agent, four kids and husband, Another struggle I faced was finding a vendor I was pleased with, figuring how to be different from my competitors, and pricing my items. I started my website but didn’t launch it for six months. Trying to make it perfect, which we know wouldn’t happen or be right! Everything is always changing and I’m always coming up with something new. After launching, I started revising, creating more ideas and learning much more than I even imagined, as my client continued to purchase my products.

At Nu You Beauty Collection, we sell a Variety of EXTENSIONS, WIGS, LASHES, EDGE CONTROL, and BONNETS.

We’re PROUD in our efforts to help people build confidence within themselves using our products. Every woman wants to feel good on the inside as well as on the outside. Whether it’s our hair, nails, toes, or clothing, we love to be different and creative being proud of our individual selves.
What sets NU YOU BEAUTY COLLECTION apart from the others is the PASSION to EMPOWER WOMEN and YOUNG GIRLS in gaining self-confidence. Seeing pictures of smiling clients wearing NU YOU BEAUTY COLLECTION products, words can’t explain. Knowing I made my clients smile using NU YOU BEAUTY COLLECTION product is an awesome feeling.

My family plays a big part in the business and deserves a lot of credit. My three girls are my social media gurus, video editors, and brand ambassadors. My Husband and Son handle the logistics of NU YOU BEAUTY COLLECTION. My Husband is also the Family Mentor which keeps the family uplifted and positive while educating our kids and allowing them to explore their creative selves while doing what they love.
Time together and building is a Plus and Priceless.
My Friend Whitney White, Owner of black & natural oral toothpaste is a big supporter, client and a mentor. We have had a lot of days and nights talking through ideas and how to grow our business to the next level. We speak about the good, bad, and ugly but push each other to keep going.
My Aunt Patricia Boyd and Friend M. Jasper have been my advocates and supporters since day one. Whether it’s an idea, phone call with support, or just being an ear.
