Today we’d like to introduce you to Bernadette Webb.
Bernadette, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a Licensed Massage Therapists, Certified Yoga Instructor and owner of Beaura Bodytherapies LLC. In my previous career as social worker, I dedicated my life to advocating for those who cannot do so for themselves. My primary population included women and children, more specifically children born with alcohol fetal syndrome and or with drugs in their system. During my time in this field, I came to realize that although I was doing heart-filled work, there was something else I was meant to do. I began a journey of self-discovery, truly embracing my gifts by facilitating healing with my hands.
As a yoga instructor, I am able to engage with my students as they embark on their own journeys of enlightenment and self-discovery. I am simply a guide yet humbled to facilitate emotional, physical and mental wellness to all. As a massage therapist, my goal is to provide a holistic approach to wellness and healing with the use of natural resources and modalities designed to provide relief to the muscles and the mind. Combined these services can provide balance and homeostasis in the body, reducing the risk of physical and mental illness. My compassion for all living things fuels my drive to help my community. As I continue to mature in my new career, I have gained a love for prenatal and pediatric massage, therefore educating myself and becoming certified in these courses to deliver the benefits of natural healing and wellness to our future. My services are available to all through mobile and in spa.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This journey has been tough yet rewarding. It has taught me the true definition of trusting the process and in doing so I have gained insight and direction from my strengths and weaknesses. To attend massage school, I had to work three part-time jobs. One working at a spa on the weekends as a front desk receptionist. Delivering packages for amazon in the evenings and ubering others to work at 5am before school. This was my life for eight months and I absolutely became overwhelmed but never did I regret making this change.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beaura Bodytherapies – what should we know?
Beaura Bodytherapies was created because I truly believe that gifts are made to be shared. The Beaura brand pronounced ‘Beora’ is defined as a state of constantly being and generating the most authentic version of yourself. It is a safe place to be vulnerable, open and accepting to the healing process. My ultimate goal is to specialize in all things perinatal, working with expecting mothers pre and postpartum. Also providing massage for infants and toddlers born with health concerns. I am aware that I have big goals for my business but I believe holistic health care practices should be affordable and available to all.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Beaura would not be a brand without the support of my friends and family. I’ve had guidance and advice along the way but most importantly motivation. This motivation comes in the form a little angel who happens to look just like me. My daughter is a huge part of my growth and my reason for pursuing my dreams. My mother and biggest cheerleader has also taught me that it’s never too late to make a change. In 2018 my mother was deported back to Bahamas after residing in the U.S for over 40 years. She left the U.S with absolutely nothing and returned to nothing. This was the hardest moment in my life and although I knew I had not lost my mother, I knew things would not be the same. She needed my support and had worked extremely hard throughout my life to provide me the opportunities I have today. I decided in that moment that it was time for me to take control of my life and I owe it to my mother for opening many doors.
