Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeronia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started working in a hair salon at 14 years old and began waxing family & friends at age 15. This is when I first realized I had a passion for helping others improve the way they look and feel about themselves. After graduating from high school, I attended beauty school and became licensed in 2009.
I perfected my craft by working in different spas and salons and I’ve always enjoyed the spa atmosphere. In addition, I gained expertise in cosmetology as well as skincare. In 2013, I moved closer to the city to obtain a cosmetic practitioner laser license. This is when I absolutely fell in love with the medical and aesthetics field and knew that skincare was my passion. I like to consider myself a perfectionist which is not always easy, but in this industry, clients really appreciate the meticulous effort shown. In 2015, I took a huge leap of faith by opening my own spa! I had very little seed money and respect for my previous employer but I started completely fresh. My first place was a one-room suite and now four years later, thanks to my clients, Skinsations sits comfortably in a 12 room facility located in Marietta.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road but it was worth it. The biggest struggle for me was and still is to leave work at work. Going back to being a perfectionist, there’s always something that needs to be done to assure that the business runs smoothly and I feel I can’t stop until I get it done. It takes away time with my family as well but they’ve been so understanding and supportive and I’ve been better about my time management. Another struggle I deal with constantly is understanding that you can’t please everyone. I hold myself and my employees to a very high standard of practice & customer service to ensure the client is always happy so when one isn’t and I can’t fix it, it takes a toll. Then I realize that as long as I know, I did the very best that I could, I have to let it go.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Skinsations story. Tell us more about the business.
I personally still see clients three days a week and take care of administrative duties for the remaining days. Skinsations is a medical spa that offers a plethora of medical and beauty-enhancing skin treatments. We are known for laser hair removal and micro-needling. About 65% of our clientele is laser hair removal so it’s our most popular service. We are known for having the most efficient and modern lasers on the market with a matched performance by highly experienced technicians. We specialize in many services such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, v-steams, facials and so much more! It is important to note that we treat ALL skin types for skin rejuvenation and laser hair removal.
I am most proud that we are able to extend quality services to over 1000 plus clients each month while still making customer service still our utmost priority. We all know that bad experiences motivate people to post online s opposed to a good experience. I never used to write reviews until I became a business owner and realized the importance. I am thankful we have over 700 reviews online and still have maintained a reputation of almost five stars, which is not easy in this industry. What sets apart from others is that our prices cater to all demographics without compromising the quality of the service. We sincerely try to personalize each treatment to fit the clients’ skin needs as if they were family.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5 to 10 years, I will launch our complete skin-care line and open more locations. We currently have one other location in Rome, GA that only specializes in non-laser services, for now. I will have a larger presence and a more interactive presence on social media as well. People will always want to look and feel their best so I will be here to do that for my clients, as long as they’ll have me.
