Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Carter.
Aaron, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was sitting in my college dorm one day and was trying to come up with ways of how I could change the fashion industry. I stumbled upon an idea of a group photoshoot with some of the best-dressed people in the DMV area. I’m from PG County in Maryland, and if you know anything about the DMV you know that we take fashion very seriously here. I loved the idea I had, but I wanted to make it bigger. Something that would get people to stop what they’re doing and to look at this project.
Then, I decided on the project title of “Fashion Bringing People Together” (aka FBPT). A fashion project about unity. There is so much competition and hate in the fashion world, and I want people to take away the good things from fashion through my project. How it’s okay to compliment someone’s outfit and to give people credit where it’s due. Personally, I have struggled with giving people credit, and through my project, I have realized that it’s very important. I think it’s very important to be original. Fashion bringing people together is a project bigger than life. It’s a movement. A lifestyle. A change. I want people in our society today to understand that if we can come together as one, the fashion industry will change. There will be more peace, and everyone will be on one accord. I love to express myself through my clothing, and I want everyone viewing my project to learn how to be confident. Some of the models in my project have never even modeled for anything in their life, and they all enjoyed it. They were confident and comfortable, and that was one of my biggest goals through this project.
I believe everyone has their own style and that it developed from someone or something. I would like to encourage everyone to support Fashion bringing people together because I believe that everyone can take something out of it. I will also be releasing a book as a part of my project and giving people a closer look into my life. The book will be titled: “Let the clothes do the talkin: A story about Aaron Carter and how fashion changed his life. Be on the lookout for that, it will release at a future date. With everything going the pace it is now, it may release pretty soon. If you would like to subscribe to hear more about updates related to the book a link will be available in my Instagram bio soon (@aaron.jordan). My main goal for this project is to inspire others who have similar dreams to mine and to reach for the stars. Fashion bringing people together will bring about the change we need to see in the fashion world.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road throughout this whole process. I am a one-man team, and it was often very difficult at times doing things all by myself. I am a person who doesn’t tend to rely on people for things related to what I want to do. Hence the reason why I decided to do this project alone. I wanted to see if I was capable of accomplishing my goals alone first before I asked anyone for guidance or help. People always ask me has it been stressful. The simple answer is yes. When I first started planning, I wasn’t sure how I would be able to afford everything. I prayed consistently and asked God to send me a blessing so that I would be able to pay for my project. God ended up blessing me with way more than I could ever ask for.
I also struggled with choosing the right models for my project. I learned through my project that what is meant for me will be for me. There have been so many people that couldn’t attend or canceled the last minute for multiple reasons. I was honestly devastated and scared when some of my original models let me know that they wouldn’t be able to attend. I didn’t know what to do. I turned to God again, and he sent me signs that fewer people are better. I was able to get way more done with fewer people anyway. I am so thankful for the models that did show up for me and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with. Once I got over those few bumps on the road, I was very successful. I was wiser and I didn’t let little issues get to me. Even now, I’m so surprised by how I managed to pull everything together by myself, but that is just one of the many blessings that were set up for me.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Fashion Bringing People Together – what should we know?
Fashion bringing people together is originally just the title of my project. It is fashion-based. Ultimately, I want to eventually build this name into a brand where I can continue to come up with clever concepts and ideas that will change the fashion industry. The main idea of this name is unity. I want to bring together many other models that are underrated or are already at the top. I am most proud of how successful this project turned out and I want to eventually develop into a worldwide company, Lord willing. I’m excited to see where this takes me within the next five years. I think what sets me apart from others is my work ethic and originality. I have yet to hear about a young African-American male come up with a fashion idea that could eventually take off into something special. I believe this project is special and unique, and I’d like to encourage everyone to find your niche. I believe my niche is fashion, and I am going to continue to come up with things that set me apart.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel like the two most important qualities to my success is my patience and drive. Patience is a quality that has been instilled in me ever since I was young. My father would always tell me to be patient and never rush things. As a child, I used to always rush and the results I would get wouldn’t always be the best. I then learned to slow down and be patient because better results will come about, and that was true. With this project, patience has been a quality that I grew to love. Originally, this project was supposed to be complete in May. As you can see it is past May, and I am so glad that I didn’t rush the process. If I rushed, I believe that my results wouldn’t have been as I expected.
Currently, I am still trusting the process of my project and praying/manifesting that only good results will come out of it. My drive is also a quality that is very important to my success. I am a hard worker and do not like to take no for an answer. I tend to work harder than my peers, and I realized this in grade school. I would not stop trying at something until I mastered it. I am the same way now. I love a good challenge, and I won’t back down from one. I make sure I get things done early most of the time so I can move on to other things. A great drive is a great quality to possess, it will set you apart from the crowd.
