Meet Jannell Palms of All in the Palms Salon Studio in Cumming

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jannell Palms.

Jannell, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been in this industry for over 25 years. That’s hard to believe when I say it out loud. I started out in Michigan when I was 21 years old. (Gosh, now you know how old I am!) Approximately 13 years ago my family moved to Georgia, and I got my reciprocity to be licensed here in Georgia. I’ll never forget my roots, but I now call Georgia home.

I’ve worked in many salons over the years as a stylist helping manage inventory and employees. I learned the ‘ins and outs’ over the years. What to do, and most definitely what NOT to do. Now I’m blessed to utilize all that knowledge and expertise in my own salon. I want to house a place where employees feel appreciated and stress free. I’ve watched people over the years feel unappreciated, over worked, and stressed to the max.

In our industry that’s full of creativity and endless possibilities, the stylist needs a haven to work in.

I pride myself in keeping up with the trending cuts and color techniques, but what I really want is to give whomever walks through those doors an experience.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Has it been a smooth ride? One of my favorite quotes I constantly tell my 3 kids – “Anything worth having, is hard getting”. That’s the absolute truth. In nearly all aspects of your life, personal and professional. I have been told… ‘you’ll never make it in this industry’ (as little as 6 years ago). There are constantly people telling what you’re not capable of, if you listen to the ‘static’, you could start believing their opinion of you. I have lived in their opinion of me; it’s an easy trap to fall into. But then you figure out, with some wisdom, how to stay in your lane. You learn how to not validate them by simply just being yourself and doing your own thing. Being genuine and authentic gets you a long way in life, whether it’s with work or in life. I’ve been ridiculed over the years, simply for just greeting my clients with hugs. I’m a hugger; I love my people!! It’s my way of showing them I care and that their important to me. I look forward to seeing each and every client that walks through my door.

This industry is AMAZING. The possibilities are endless, as far as your imagination can take you. As with most businesses it can be cut throat, but the teammates and clients become your extended family. All that toxicity and background noise is so worth the end result: relationships that last a lifetime.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with All in the Palms Salon Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our little salon nestled in downtown Cumming, Georgia, which clients have called “a comfy haven”. I take pride in creating a place where you look forward to going. Where you know as soon as you walk in and get my hug, you’re home. Where your needs are determined with a sit down personal consultation, while drinking a hot or cold beverage.

Where you can decide what type of style you wish to achieve.

Whether you want something that’s cutting edge, trendy, or just something that goes with your busy lifestyle. There are different types of hair color services that could best suit your needs. Perhaps you’re just wanting to cover the dreaded unwanted gray hair or needing dimension with some highlights. Maybe you want something that doesn’t require as much upkeep, like the balayage or ombre’ techniques. Or maybe you just want brighten up your hair color with some baby lights around your face.

Children are welcome; we’ve had many first timers, and we love the light they bring into the salon.

Hey guys! I haven’t forgotten about you! I’ve worked in a barbershop at one point too. I can take care of your fade or your flow.

Everyone is pampered with a mini neck, back, hand and scalp massage too. Just a little added touch to help melt the everyday stresses away.

I think what sets us apart from others are the small things. We don’t feel that we’re better than anyone else. There are a lot of talented people in this industry. We don’t see ourselves in that kind of light. We just try to take care of who walks through our door.

We treat people like family, not a commodity. It’s not about us, it’s about the person sitting in our chair. Family is everything to us. After all they are the cornerstone, without them we are nothing. If we leave them better not only externally but internally, then that makes my heart as full as can be!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I look forward to being able to provide other stylists a place to call home away from home. Where they can get back to just focusing on their craft, not the drama that comes with it.

That initially is one of the reasons that drove me to open my own place to begin with. I’m not looking for any big changes at this time. I just want to enjoy this moment in my life. I’ve learned to not rush; to take it all in and enjoy the ride. I wouldn’t be able to enjoy where I’m at if weren’t for the unwavering loyalty of my clients. Without them, I’d have no reason to open my doors. I don’t take them for granted. Nor do I take my family for granted. Without the love and support from my husband Damian and my 3 kids, Derrick, Jordan and Haleigh, I wouldn’t be where I am. They have made many sacrifices for this to happen. They’ve been there throughout this journey loving me and supporting me through it all. I’m blessed with a remarkable circle. I’m thankful and humbled by the life I have been given.
