So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2013, I moved from Philadelphia, PA to St Augustine, FL with my husband Luis and our tribe of 5 children. We had already fallen in love with the whole southern part of the US and wanted to find a place close to the beach. Since settling here, we’ve grown to love the southern lifestyle. Here we enjoy the rare combination of rich history, culture, beach access, fishing and food… to name only a few of the many delights. So we started a brand called “St Augustine Homes & Living” to provide a full service experience for all others relocating south. Our goal is to help people settle here while helping them enjoy the treasures of the town. Our real estate services are offered under the surety and protection of REMAX Leading Edge which is a smart and fast growing team of experts in both residential and commercial transactions. We have served many customers in Georgia who have desired a place by the beach. When we interact with our customers whether it be one on one or through our publicity, we always offer information on various lifestyle topics including: fishing tips, recipes that use locally grown produce, special local events including arts/music and home decor. We’ve loved serving the good people of Atlanta who feel more like neighbors now!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting a business is like building a ship while also trying to sail it. There are so many priorities to juggle. In addition, our real estate services have kept us super busy so we’ve had less time to focus on lifestyle and home decor. But we think within 3 years we will have more time to diversify the way we want.

*We are also proud that many customers have come from our neighboring state, Georgia!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck but rather grace and grit.
Luck is a depressing concept because it implies that results are out of control and completely left up to a mysterious “fate” that a non personal universe decides. No, I don’t believe that.
On the contrary, I propose that results are far more IN our control that most of us care to admit. And grace involves an interaction with both a personal God and other actual people who, if we are honest, are all our neighbors.
Business is like fishing. There really is no luck in fishing. If you constantly cast your line, study the water and the weather, you will eventually catch fish.
Similarly, business involves having the will to focus on both the big and small picture in a smart way. Then having the tenacity to drill down to the details inherent in top priorities and then execute an action plan. My Dad always said, “Cal- plan the work and work the plan.”
There is so much in our control both in life and business. This is both exciting and terrifying.
But if I don’t embrace this reality, then my business is just a victim to circumstance and we all lose.
