Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Vazquez.
Adriana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m just a humble nobody with a little talent and big dreams. Ever since I could remember, I’ve always been interested in anything art related or visually pleasing. I didn’t realize I was any good at it until I started school. Teachers would push me to join art competitions and attend events and I was always for it! Later on, in Middle School and High School is when I started thinking more about the business aspects and how I could make money doing something I enjoyed.
I think being the oldest of four played a big role in me wanting to gain financial independence at such a young age. I just wanted to be able to buy my own things. I remember I used to sell little treats I’d learn how to make in culinary arts class and at some point, I started customizing crew necks and shoes. Shortly after I got my first job in high school, I bought my first camera and I got into photography and video editing. I guess I was really just trying to figure out what I liked but I liked everything! Although I wanted to attend art school (still do), I knew it was something I could not afford. I had the talent and the ambition and I knew I could make that work!
After graduating, I was still painting and taking commissions but it wasn’t until about two years ago that I started baking and actually making money from it. It was one year on Valentine’s Day, I was taking orders for Strawberries and other little treats and it turned out to be a success! I was a stay at home mom during that time and I was always finding ways to make a little extra cash from home. So I offered treats again for Mother’s Day, then Father’s Day and so on! Soon I started getting contacted for Custom Treats for parties and I’ve been keeping busy and pretty consistent ever since!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
NO! I’ve learned that if something’s worth it, it will not be easy! Anxiety has held me back from many things but I feel like postpartum depression was one of those things that I really struggled with and made me fall off from my art for a little while. Let’s be real, no one feels like creating when they feel like poop right? And it’s something I still struggle with but I’m learning how to work around it and not let it get to me. I’m 25, I’m a wife and a mom of two (cool mom, make sure you get that) I have a part-time job to help support my own business and life does get very frustrating and stressful at times. That’s when I have to remind myself what I want and who I do it for and just keep pushing!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Visual Ecstasy – what should we know?
This is a hard one! Every time I get asked “What do you do?” I struggle to answer because I really do a little bit of everything! Right now, I am focusing more on Party Treats and Decor just because that is what I get reached out for the most. I still do paint and doodle when I have some free time and I do take commissions for custom cards/gifts. Most of the time if you can think it, I can create it! I never limit myself and I think that’s definitely something that I can say I’m very proud of. My whole life, it didn’t matter what it was I just knew that 150% would come from me in efforts of literally giving it my all! And if there is one thing that I am known for I’d definitely have to say MY HUSTLE! (If you know, you know)
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I greatly appreciate each and everyone who continues to support my hustle throughout the years! My parents never really understood what it was that I wanted to do but they’ve continued to always support me anyways. I’m just thankful for the people that I’ve met that see the potential in me and my vision!
