Today we’d like to introduce you to Pashun Aquarius Judkins.
Pashun Aquarius, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story started in middle school when I noticed that I was shaped differently from other girls in my class. I was always told because of my body I shouldn’t wear the same things, other girls, my age did. So one day, I decided I wouldn’t let people who didn’t look like me make me feel bad about the things I wanted to wear or how my body looked. I started with flat drawings and eventually evolved into creating my patterns for garments and teaching myself how to make garments that fit key parts of my body. The older I got the more I realized at that time there wasn’t a place plus size people could go to shape their clothing to there body instead of the other way around. From then on, I wanted to make a place not just for plus size people but one that would create a different method used to create the clothing to fit key places for each body type.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, not at all. This road I have chosen has been paved with hardships. I went through a stage where no one had faith in me as a designer and they were convinced I wouldn’t become anything more than a t-shirt salesman. Despite the backlash I’ve received, I persevered and worked three jobs to pay for my first line to walk in a fashion show. I spent hours on end in the lab perfecting my garments and handpicking my models, finding my DJ, Stage Manager, and event photographer. I went on to have the longest line in the show not to mention the longest standing ovation received that night. I was proud of all the hard work and after seeing the reaction to those who swore I wouldn’t make it (including one of my freshman year instructors). They all ate their words while I couldn’t have felt more supported by my team and my brothers for being there and cheering me on the whole way.
UrbanPashun – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
UrbanPashun is a universal term that describes what you love and how you choose to connect and influence your community. Whether it’s through art, music, fashion, philanthropy, etc how you choose to express and better yourself and the people around you is what it’s all about. My passion started with fashion and music, then I got into multimedia and animations. So your UrbanPashun can also be a collaboration of the things you enjoy. While fashion is my specialty because that is what I have had the most training and experience in, I hope to make every part of UrbanPashun’s future endeavors what I specialize in this includes media production and music production. As of now, I’m known for my made to order garments and graphic designs.
As a company, I am most proud that I am the first female business owner in my family. I’m proud that I was able to accomplish so much on my own that I know if I get the right people in my corner, there will be no height I can’t reach. What I believe sets me apart from other companies is that the customer has a say in every part of the custom process. They are given a play by play and included in the process of picking fabrics for the garment. Kept up to date and sent pictures of the process, basically to show them first hand the love and effort that I put into every garment. Showing them things they might not even recognize like the hand made patterns using their exact measurement. I love the amount of effort and energy I put into the work I have created so far and will continue to create in the future.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far would be my participation in the UNCG Spring Fashion show and having the longest line. My line stood out because although it was a spring show, I took more of an alternative route using darker colors and dark floral embroidered lace. I found a DJ to custom mix my music to create a mood to accompany my line. On that day, UrbanReign made it’s depute to show the world my version of modern royalty.
