Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Jones.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kay. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved to Charlotte from St. Paul, Minnesota, September 2015. I packed all my clothes, wine glasses, and my 32″ TV into my little red Kia Spectra and drove straight down. I had no job, no plan, and no one down here to help me figure it out; but that’s what I wanted. My whole life, I had been the troubled child, the wild child, the care-free teen, the fun social butterfly and I always had a solid support system. My big sisters always had my back whenever I needed anything, and so did my friends. I didn’t want that life for myself where I was codependent on people and if I stayed in Minnesota, I knew my life would be mediocre. Once I made it to Charlotte, I stayed in a room with a roommate from a craigslist ad. I bounced from job to job until I found something worth my time. I worked knocking on doors selling AT&T. I quit that after about three months; I hated it. I did phone sex for about three months and then got fired for cussing out a caller (he was a perv).
Then I moved on to the restaurant industry, which is what I mostly did back in MN. After about a year and a half of being in Charlotte, I finally got an office job working for a global compliance company. It paid me $42K/year and I was comfortable as a single woman. I had lots of flexibility because they were a small company. I started writing a sex blog called Melanin Milk. My whole life, I had been a very sexual woman. At the age of 12, I participated in an Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (APP) class that was held at a local recreation center. They taught us about STDs, pregnancy, the male and female reproductive system, contraception and more. We even received a $50 monthly stipend for attending. So I was there every Monday, Wednesday, Friday learning. By the age of 13, I was interested in losing my virginity. I felt educated and ready lol. I asked my neighbor, who had been trying to get with me all summer. He took his time with me on the cold kitchen floor. However, I definitely enjoyed myself, so much I even came on the very first try! After that, I found myself super interested in sex. I even ended up teaching APP by the age of 16. I just knew my life was going to be like Carrie Bradshaw’s (That was my dream at age 14).
So by the time I started Melanin Milk, I had hella stories to share. I wanted to create a black Cosmopolitan Magazine vibe, it was my favorite magazine but I could never relate to it. I wanted to show the world that there were black women who were into kink and other fun, wild things. The blog post had very graphic language and visuals. It immediately got popular. I started to build a following off of Melanin Milk and couldn’t figure out how to create wealth from it. At that time, I was getting a lot of messages from women who were sharing personal issues that they were having with me. Basically living vicariously through my posts because they weren’t having sex as such. They mentioned so many issues from not having energy, not staying wet, overthinking or mind wandering during sex, to not being able to cum from penetration and the list just goes on.
Around that time, I got deep into Law of Attraction, meditating, mindfulness practices, and manifesting. I would script out the life I desired using present tense and the feeling of the thoughts felt so real, I was going out to fancy bars and hanging out in expensive neighborhoods. During one of my meditating sessions, I saw a magic pill that helps a woman have mind-blowing sex every time. A pill that immediately got her ready and in the mood. I had no idea if it was something that was already created or if it was even possible. I immediately began to research. I was super interested in the holistic approach, something all-natural. I studied so many herbs, met with a renowned herbalist and carefully picked herbs that would help with the entire sexual experience. I made a few adjustments and had to figure out how I was going to get start-up money.
While working my “9-5”, I picked up a bartending gig. My job allowed me to shift my hours to 7 am – 4 pm so that I can make it to my second job to work 4:30-midnight (sometimes later). I worked those exhausting hours for about four months and was DRAINED. But I finally had the money I needed to do everything on my own. I made my website. I made the labels (which were janky at first), I packed the pills and made the capsules, I filled bottles, labeled bottles and sealed them. I was able to make 200 bottles to start.
One day I got a DM from @Kikisaidso, the co-host of Cocktales Podcast and she wanted me to come on the show for Melanin Milk. Her listeners were requesting my appearance. I felt special lol. I took that opportunity to bring them some SheOrgasms to try and give me their honest feedback. After the podcast, Kiki LOVED the product. She would effortlessly mention it in her casual conversations about how she popped her SheOrgasms and the magic that would happen. So her listeners immediately became intrigued. I sold out of my 200 bottles fast after that. I was now making bottles every day after work. I had to quit the bartending gig. After a year, I was able to quit corporate and work for myself full time. Now, two and a half years later I have employees and a 6 figure company!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I struggled getting women to try a product called SheOrgasms. My childhood was great, I was rebellious and bad so of course, I went through things but they were self-inflicted. I definitely went through the can’t pay my bills, had to live out of my car for a while, couch hopping amongst friends and family. But it all helped me become this humble person I am today and helped me appreciate my success more. I know my sisters thought I was going to be codependent forever lol. But I refused to live the way I was living. It didn’t align with my inner self.

Once you realize that everything is love, you walk through life differently. I do everything out of love. I also live by faith. I take risks because I know I’m going to receive everything the universe has queued up for me. Optimism, confidence, and pure heart has helped me gain success. Allowing others to help and getting rid of people who bring you down.
