Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Hisey.
Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Thirteen years ago, I got my start in Continuous Improvement as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt at AT&T. Ever since I’ve been using both methodologies within my professional career and in my personal life, I adapted that Continuous Improvement mindset. I worked in different parts of AT&T as an Internal Consultant and Trainer from Service Delivery, Quality management, Product development, and Product Management. In 2018, I was approached by Nielsen. After 15 years with AT&T, I decided to make a career change and joined Nielsen. At Nielsen, I worked as an internal Continuous Improvement consultant, coach, and trainer in all parts of the business. It was at Nielsen that I discovered a whole new world of coaching and teaching along with consulting. During this time, I also began to teach Lean Six Sigma at the University of South Florida. I discovered my true passion for helping people and businesses succeed.
During 2017, I realized that I want to start my own business because I knew that there so many people and companies outside of my corporate job that needed help with their companies and organizations. Over the next two years, I worked on what I wanted to do with my business, and in early 2019, I was able to leap and launched Lauren Hisey Consulting. Throughout 2019 and early 2020, I was able to help a few clients and learned who I wanted to help with Continuous Improvement Consulting and Coaching.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my motos is to strive for progress, not perfection. While it has not been a smooth road, I’ve enjoyed my journey so far because I’ve been able to develop my passion, my writing, and my brand. Through this journey, I have used my failures as learnings. One of the biggest struggles has been learning the best way to sell and market my business. I have learned that as the owner of my own business, I’m always selling and marketing. It doesn’t have to be scary because it gives me a chance to learn about people and their business. It is learning how to develop those relationships and how you help people instead of “selling.”
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I guide business owners and leaders on how to rapidly and efficiently get from point A to point B, resulting in real progress and empowerment. I use a Continuous Improvement mindset and methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, PDCA, etc.) to get people and businesses to the next level. Regardless of the size of the company or the type of leader, Continous Improvement is influential in helping people succeed.
While working with a coach earlier this year, I was asked what sets me apart from others. This made me think of how I’m genuinely different from other business coaches and consultants. Through self-discovery, I realized that I like to have normal conversations with people. I also do not shy away from challenges. Instead, I embrace the challenges. My coach went further to say that I do have a calming influence. By combining all of these factors with my unique business background, Continuous Improvement, and education, I’m able to help people and businesses in ways other can’t because I’m able to normal conversations with people without losing them. I’m able to help them solve the problems that they see and don’t see within their business and leadership.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I have so many proud moments within my career, but my proudest moment was launching my business. It took a lot of courage for me to do that. It was scary at first, but I’m so excited that I’m finding my way.
