Meet Travis Moore of Hometown Realty Consultants in Covington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Moore.

Travis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My great-grand daddy was a builder and also purchased income-producing properties. He would build everything in sections similar to what we know as modular buildings today. Behind his house was a shop where all sections were completed and just beyond that is a hill that drops about six foot down. All the sections were brought to the top of the hill and lowered onto trucks. I’ve always loved this story because nobody else locally at that time was using this type of building method. When he passed, he divided all of his properties among his daughters. My dad would follow in his footsteps years later.

Growing up, I can always remember my dad owning and managing income properties, both commercial and residential. I would ride along when picking up rent money or going to make repairs. Over the years, growing up he added more properties and even developed some commercial buildings.

This is where my love for real estate, income properties and development comes from. After years of thinking about getting my real estate license, I finally did so late 2014. I joined a local independent office in Covington, Hometown Realty Consultants. From day one, I fell in love with the real estate business. I love negotiating, helping buyers find the perfect home and helping sellers get top dollar for their properties. In 2015 I sold 17 properties and was nominated and voted #1 Real Estate Agent in Newton/Rockdale. This same year I enrolled in the real estate Broker class. To become a broker, you need to have held a license for a minimum of three years. I passed both the class and state exam the first try and became an Associate Broker in early 2018.

In 2018 I was nominated and chosen as the featured agent in Top Agent Magazine GA edition. I was just notified first of July 2020 that I had been nominated again for Top Agent GA. Since 2014, my first year as an agent, I’ve been a multi-million dollar producer. I’m also currently flipping houses in the older neighborhoods in my community with my dad. I love giving my hometown new life through these renovations.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing my real estate business wasn’t easy and I’m glad that it wasn’t. That does sound odd for someone to say, but there’s a sense of pride and accomplishment knowing nothing was handed to me. I wasn’t part of a team or working directly under a seasoned veteran where leads were passed to me. I hustled for every single one.

From 2006-2018, I worked in public safety full time. I worked with the local fire department and as an EMT on the ambulance. I held my full-time position as an EMT for my first three years in real estate. At this point, my real estate business had grown enough for me to step away from public safety.

My business started with grassroots marketing, knocking on doors, sending out letters, chasing down expired listings and just being out introducing myself and shaking hands. I was so successful and busy starting out that by year two, I had seen and worked every type of transaction, residential, land, commercial and along the way navigated through many obstacles. A few transactions involved the EPA, local and state authorities cleaning up and preparing for a sale on commercial properties. One, in particular, was a laundry mat. All of my training was upfront, all obstacles and issues that came up I just got in there and figured it out. I had the full support of the owner/managing Broker Darlene Smallwood, but she didn’t do the work for me.

Today 90% of my business is repeat or referral. The other 10% leads from my website or leads coming from my Zillow profile.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Hometown Realty Consultants is a local independent real estate company in Covington, Georgia. There are seven agents in my office. We were voted #1 Real Estate Agency in 2015, 2019 and 2020 for Newton and Rockdale. At Hometown Realty, we specialize in all aspects of real estate, residential, commercial, land and rentals.

What I’m most proud of with my company is our customer service and teamwork. When you call the other agents or me, we always answer the phone or if unavailable, call back within ten minutes. Communication with clients is important too. We always keep our clients informed and updated throughout the entire process.

At Hometown Realty, all agents act as one team. Clients engaging with one agent by default get all other agents on their side. If another office agent has a buyer that wants to see a house and their agent isn’t available, someone else will step forward and show that buyer. Our customer service is what I feel sets us apart. Myself and all other agents can be reached by phone directly or email at all times.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel my work ethic contributed to all of my success. When starting my real estate business, I quickly learned its feast or famine-like most small businesses. You can be successful, but you have to hustle. Most weeks, especially during the summer, I’ll work 6-7 days and all hours of the day and night when necessary.

This business isn’t easy like it may appear to be, but I absolutely love it. So much that it doesn’t feel like work to me at all. I’m also brutally honest and what you see is what you get with me. My clients appreciate it as I’m straightforward with them and yield better results for them. These qualities are what keep my referrals coming.
