Today we’d like to introduce you to Hailey Smith.
Hailey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began making clothes by creating custom clothing for myself to wear in middle school. I upcycled pants, jackets, jewelry, almost anything I could get my hands on. Once I noticed that other people actually liked the pieces I was wearing, I realized that I could expand my talents by creating items for other people. When I entered high school, I always wore weird outfits and things others weren’t use to seeing. My friends always told me that I should start selling the clothes I wore so I started selling custom pieces through my Instagram. When that took off, my followers and mutuals told me they wanted more clothing & art from me. I then started working on creating my clothing brand “Crashed Vine”.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I had a really hard time actually starting my clothing brand and sticking to a plan for it for quite a while. During my sophomore year of high school, I got really depressed and lost all motivation to keep making clothes. I started to think that my clothes wouldn’t be good enough to sell on a higher platform. I began to get really insecure over my art and was about to quit before I even started. My friends and family saw so much potential in me and started to push me to take my creativity to the next level. I gained more inspiration and confidence over the next year and got back on track by creating a website for my brand and doing weekly photoshoots to gain exposure for “Crashed Vine”.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Crashed Vine is a clothing brand with pieces for all people from all backgrounds. I created this brand to inspire people to tap into their own creative side and express themselves through my clothing. No matter who you are and where you came from, everyone has the potential to showcase their gifts, and Crashed Vine is a brand that represents just that. Aside from selling clothes through Crashed Vine, I help other teenagers jumpstart their businesses and brands. I teach them the basics and help them get a head start towards becoming their own boss. I’m different from most entrepreneurs my age because I aspire to help and give back to others. I love helping people grow with their talents and giving them access to ways to reach their own personal success.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel that Atlanta is a great place to build a clothing brand and sell your own art. There’s so many opportunities and outlets to become successful here. I would most definitely recommend someone to start here in Atlanta because networking and finding help is really simple. Almost everyone is welcoming and is easy to collaborate with so starting a brand can be quick to do. Atlanta is also home to great art schools and a good fashion district so the resources here for fashion is very abundant.
