Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As cliché as it may sound, I’ve always had a passion for photography. Whether I was in front of a camera or behind it, I always loved the camera. My first real memory with photography is when my Mom bought me A Polaroid! Boy, was I happy!!! I was also impatient. I couldn’t wait to until the film dried. I wanted to see what I had captured. I remember carrying that camera around EVERYWHERE! Taking selfies before it was a thing! As I got older, the responsibilities of life got in the way of my passion. It wasn’t until I got married that I decided to pursue my passion. I HATED my wedding photos. I got up one morning and decided I didn’t want brides to feel what I felt when I got my photos. I want them to look at them and cry tears of joy. I soon realized I was truly happy when I was photographing couples. There is just something so special about capturing lifetime love.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! However, my biggest struggle without a doubt was finding my style and knowing what kind of photography I wanted to do. There are so many amazing photographers out there. When I started, I felt like I was obsessed with comparing my work to others. I was beating myself up because I could get my work to look like neither Tamika Nelson or Danny Austin Photography photos. It wasn’t until I gained confidence in MYSELF and me as a photographer. What a struggle! I’m 31, and I’m just starting to get comfortable in my talent and being called a “photographer.” I’m still working on getting better and more confident and more sure of what I want from me. It has already opened doors to do more creative work.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in maternity, weddings and lifestyle photography. My sessions are more of an experience than a photoshoot. During my sessions, I strive for my clients to show me the real them. I capture real-life moments during my shoots. Some of my favorite images are candid. I love to catch my clients off guard. That’s when they are themselves. I take the most pride in the fact that my clients actually have fun during their sessions.
What set me apart from other photographers? For years the question I couldn’t answer as a photographer was “What sets you apart from everyone else?” It uses to confuse me so I made a list. I’m a giver so I give my clients gifts. I take beautiful images. I treat their wedding as I would my own. My passion for photography. My commitment to reply to clients as quickly as possible, day or night and how eager I am to learn new things.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in Prayer. It’s as simple as that. I prayed/praying my way through. I prayed for everything that I have and everything I will have. I pray over my business daily,
