Meet Reggie “Lakewude” Kincaid of Lakewude in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reggie “Lakewude” Kincaid.

Reggie “Lakewude”, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Reggie Kincaid and I was born on December 12, 1999 in Murfreesboro, TN. I moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia when I was 12. Then I moved to Marietta when I was 14 and Woodstock when I was 16. I started drawing at 2 years old and started writing music at 9 years old. I’ve always been around music when I was a kid. I started taking my craft seriously at 12 years old when I wrote a song about my father. My father has been deceased since before I was born, so of course it held sentimental value. I didn’t start dropping songs till I was 16. I didn’t hit the Atlanta music scene until after I released my debut “Happy Birthday Lakewude.” In 2019, I joined the Playlist Academy and spent all summer performing and making new connections with people like The 808 Wave. Ever since then the rest has been history.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been an easy road making music. People consistently are biased and feel the need to bring you down. You could be called trash for trying to be different and not follow the crowd. I struggled with depression and having to be alone a good amount of the road. I never had real friends until recently. People come and go. It’s cool to know I have friends who’ve stuck around over the years, who can actually give me valid criticism on what I need to fix in my music.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
This company is really just me and my name and branding. I do art, music, I want to get into photography and modeling, maybe even acting if the opportunity presents itself. I’m most proud of the progress I’ve made in the last two years honestly. What sets me apart from others is my drive and dedication because I, one day, want to be the greatest artist of all time or at least a part of that conversation.

What were you like growing up?
I was annoying growing up but over time I calmed down. I always got along with the older kids. I really liked Star Wars, Tony Hawk games, Sonic the Hedgehog and hip hop in general. My personality really just could fit with any crowd but I still felt alone honestly.
