Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Pedescleaux.
Monica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The name “SweetP” was one of my many nicknames given to me by some close friends and family who experienced my love for making desserts. The bakery concept was just an idea listed on my vision board a few years ago with no real intentions of it becoming a reality. However, the year 2020 and the involuntary quarantine provided some extra time and flexibility to take a closer look at a few goals I had put on reserve. Thus, the launch of “B’yond Sweet by SweetP” began. I hail from the great state of California and migrated to the south where I attended and graduated from Tuskegee University, earning my BS in Accounting. I’ve worked in the financial industry for years and have always been a woman about my business. Many people see me as being “strictly business”. The name “B’yond” represents that I am more than what you see. Therefore, the vision for “B’yond Sweet” is more than a traditional bake shop; it’s a boutique sweet shop & café.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing in life is a smooth process. There are always obstacles that arise as you are pressing towards your goal; however, determination, faith and perseverance are key! For me, my own doubts and negative thoughts served as the biggest obstacle. I questioned myself and my ability to get the business started. From, do I have the time, who will patronize me, and will it be successful. My inner circle of close friends and support of my family kept me inspired to keep pushing. Along the way, my son always reminded me “Mom, you got this”! And I do!

B’yond Sweet by SweetP is currently an online boutique sweet shop & café. We specialize in made from scratch, hand-baked goods. B’yond Sweet has sweet and savory dishes for every occasion and every budget. Vegan and gluten-free options are available upon special request. I take pride in my ability to be free to create desserts or savory dishes based on a customer’s request. No two desserts or dishes are the same. Each one is custom-made, created and designed especially for you!
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was always known as the pretty little light-skin girl that was very quiet and shy. I liked going to church, singing, and listening to music. In high school, I knew that math and accounting were my strong subjects, although I could excel in any area if I put forth the effort. Working hard and striving for excellence has always been part of my character. I always had a select group of friends as I learned early in life that there will only be a handful of people who will provide genuine friendships, support and love for you despite your faults. As the oldest child of four, I always lived in the shadows of my younger siblings, quietly fighting for the same or greater love and attention that my parents showed to them. I always doubted myself and my ability to be great. It wasn’t until after I had my son at 25 that I learned to love myself for who I am regardless of the love received from others and that my greatness lies within me. As a woman, I find my confidence, faith, hope, love and strength in God. I now know that I was created for a purpose, and that my beauty spans far “B’YOND” what the eyes can see!
