Today we’d like to introduce you to Tevin Sumblin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tevin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love for music got started at a very young age. The Tupac and Biggie era was something I drifted towards as I begun loving rap music. It wasn’t until I was 12 or 13 years old where I began writing music of my own. I was so nervous that no one would like my music that I would never finish lyrics to any song. My first ever public appearance was on Instagram my sophomore year in college. I decided to see if people would like my rap or hate it. I did a remix to Panda by Desiigner, and it got amazing reviews. So many people were extremely shocked to hear myself rapping as well as I did. Ever since then I’ve been writing freestyles, to winning artist showcases, and releasing my first EP in September of 2018. My rapping style takes after artist now such as Wale (who’s been my favorite since 08), J Cole, Kendrick, Logic, & Bryson Tiller just to name a few.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any dream or goal you will face obstacles. The biggest challenges have been the entire year of 2020. I released a great song that got amazing traction and the virus hit which prohibited me from getting out and preforming and promoting as much as I wanted to. I also lost a real close friend of mine who was influential in me staying with my rap career. His passing has fueled me to keep grinding and do something different in the rap game. Long live Zuriel!
Please tell us about ERA.
So as a music artist, my style is that of a lyricist. I appreciate the past days of rap and want to make sure true rap never dies. I am most proud of developing a team around myself that believes in me. ERA Music Management is on the rise as well as myself, ERA!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is anything to do with my family! My household was crazy growing up with all brothers. Me being the baby brother taught me a lot and it surely toughen me up! But if I had to pick one memory, it would be Sunday dinners at home with my family that transitioned to watching football with my dad! I truly miss those days.
