Meet David Suddeth of Cherokee Music Center in Canton

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Suddeth.

David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The foundation for our store was laid in 1995, when Doug Ponier opened Ponier Percussion in Marietta and became an active part of the North Georgia music community. In 1999, my father purchased my first guitar from Ponier Music Acworth and from that point on my love for music would only grow! In 2008, Kevin & Camilla Sanders teamed up to create Ponier Music Woodstock, A staple of the Cherokee County community for 9 years. Now called Cherokee Music Center, we mirror what Ponier Music Woodstock and Ponier Music Marietta have created over the past decade, and aim to revitalize the Cherokee County music scene as well as showcase the amazing students and acts in our local area.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Many times I have fallen and had to pick myself back up again. Its what life is about…

Recreating yourself into a better person, and when you do so your life grows around you.

I have always had someone to lean on during those tough times and without Sarah, I would not be where I am now. She pushed me to do what I wanted to do, instead of chasing someone else’s dream building homes, my previous profession.

Please tell us about Cherokee Music Center.
We carry some of the finest name brands in music: Martin, Taylor, Dean, Luna, Ludwig, Ddrum and Zildjian to name a few, along with used gear, band and Instrument rentals, PA rentals, and MUCH MORE!!

Our store offers a welcoming environment for guests complete with music lessons, The Listening Room for playing sessions, and instrument service and repair.

Our music lesson program is what really sets us apart for our competition. We teach over 90 students at our store, ranging from 6-94 years old! It’s what really drives us! Getting children into music and helping them gain knowledge and love it enough to practice at home.

Another thing that sets us apart and what we strive to be known for is our love for local music and musicians. We have a personal relationship with all of our customers and we even offer a musician’s night twice a month where musicians and listeners come and join together for an open mic pot luck.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing. Somehow, I was led to where I am, so I believe my path would be the same.
