Meet Da’ Lenci

Today we’d like to introduce you to Da’ Lenci.

So, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I started it wasn’t “music”, it was just my deepest thoughts on a piece of paper. I’ve always been a real confidential person though. So even when it did become a music thing, I wasn’t the kid running around free-styling to everybody for claps. Music is an art to me. It goes beyond the sounds you hear, but rather the sounds you feel. Before I even found my voice, I had already had my mind made on what I wanted to sound like and the word play I wanted to perfect. I’m a real spiritual person, and it shows through my craft. When I started, I was getting laughed at of course. People have laughed in my face and behind me, a lot. I never really tripped because like I said… I’m real spiritual. I’ve always been different, appearance and sound wise, and people fear what they don’t understand. Don’t get me wrong it did hurt because my craft is nothing but my story and things I’ve witnessed, but I always had a very strong faith in myself. Dealing with life as a young black man is not easy. People don’t know the severity of how hard it is because black men don’t talk about it until they’re well in age. Me though? Listen to my music and you’ll hear whole passages telling whole stories of this life in audio format…it’s beautiful.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Support wasn’t always in my favor and I haven’t always had my own studio. But, it’s a process. You just got to walk with it.

Tell us more about your work.
I’m a song writer, singer, and rapper. I am extremely diverse in my craft, having studied many historical music icons. My style reaches beyond just the trap sound. I’ve studied artists like Xxxtentacion, Marilyn Manson, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Michael Jackson, & Nina Simone. I’ve also done my fair share of studying bands like The Cranberries, Papa Roach, The Beetles, and The Jackson 5.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career was back when I first performed for a crowd. I was all at a club I wasn’t even supposed to be in lol. Them people loved the kid though. Everybody was clapping, women were running up asking for my social media and stuff. It was crazy. Great experience I won’t ever forget because I met so many new artists and dancers.
