Meet Jasmine Davis (a.k.a. j.CA$H) of Be Beyond Ordinary in North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Davis (a.k.a. j.CA$H).

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I never thought I would be owning a business of my own. I’ve always had an issue with making big purchases and spending on myself, so it was hard to take that first leap. I had to make the decision to invest in myself and put my foot down on what I wanted to do. With the support of my loved ones, I made the move. I designed my website and sat on it for a while, stacking up by making ashtray sells on Instagram. From there, it took off. I wanted to prove to myself that I could create something that people were going to love, and I wanted to prove to myself that I could achieve at something like this. I set my goals, put my mind towards them, and kept walking forward.

Has it been a smooth road?
Most of my struggles came about during the beginning processes. Not that I’m big right now, but it was difficult designing the website, coming up with names for products, keeping up with everyone’s order before the site was made, and just making sure all of my ducks were in a row. When it comes to the ashtrays, I used to worry a lot about how they would turn out, because I have control over it to a certain extent, and I wanted to make sure I correctly translated my customers’ visions into this little piece of art. I don’t get an order every day, but I am always feeling blessed and full of excitement when that notification pops up on my phone. I love to see that my friends are ordering and supporting, but it warms my heart to see names pop up that I don’t know. That means someone is spreading the word, and that’s love.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a one-woman-show, who creates homemade, custom ashtrays and sells quality jewelry. All of my ashtrays are one of a kind, for the most part. While I may be able to recreate a look, no two ashtrays are ever the same. That is what I love about it the most. It is important to me that I translate my customers’ visions into the tray, but I always try to do this in the most creative way possible. I would say I am more known for my ashtrays than my jewelry, just because of the creative flare they have. I am most proud of my brand’s transition from taking orders in my DM to receiving orders on a website. I am proud of the progress, and I am trusting the process. What sets me apart from others is my emphasis on individuality in the way that I create my ashtrays. There will be more collections in the future, but I don’t know of many people doing what I am doing and taking it to the level that I’m taking it to. At the end of the day, I want to be known as someone who is different and stands out among the rest. I want that same reputation for my brand.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Atlanta is a perfect city for creatives. Atlanta is such a diverse city that is open to so many ideas. I would encourage any creative to try to make their way here. This is the hub of creativity and entertainment. People who say certain markets are oversaturated, but I believe it’s all about how you promote yourself and the message that you give. Just keep doing you. Somebody’s going to feel it. It just takes one.
