Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana George.
Diana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Even as an adult, I can still hear my mother’s voice saying, “if you’re going to do something, do it right the first time.” My father on the other hand, often said from the Billie Holiday song, “God Bless the Child who has his own.” I took both of them to heart in everything I did, so my entrepreneurial spirit started at ten years old with a paper route and weekly babysitting.
Integrity and ethics was always a key part of that. I was that person growing up that everyone could always depend on to do my best, be my best and help others to be their best. This meant learning and understanding not only jobs I took on but also the jobs of those around me. This helped open up many doors and opportunities along the way as well as maintain relationships over the years.
During high school, I was the president and member of the FBLA club (Future Business Leaders of America), where I always imagined being a successful business owner. My high school yearbook likes included “meeting people, having fun, enjoying life and being ME.” My attendance at the HBCU North Carolina A&T State University prepared me for new adventures in travel, business and success. The relationships made during that time frame still exist stronger than ever today. It brought out the best in me.
It was my job at BOSE speakers that I gained insight into what it meant to have a career. That career was exciting, rewarding and FUN! I realized then when you bring out the best in people. They do their best. It was this job that shaped my view on how and what work should be. This company valued its people and made their participation fundamental in its success. Having had that experience, I continued to look for it in other places. For me trust, honesty, ethics and communication were the fundamentals for a great environment to work in. As I transitioned into Human Resources, I realized that I had the ability to truly impact those core values to the people around me and create something really special.
While at the Swatch Group, OMEGA watches brand I did just that. By seeing and validating the best in people I got the best from people. Happy people produce results in all areas of their life, professionally and personally. Through Human Resources, I have been able to dispel the myth that HR people only care about the company and that all they do is terminate people. Exceptional HR people provoke thought, encourage and help to bring out the best in people. They are caring but hold true to ethics and values for all they work with. HR is the foundation for every organization. Through HR, I have been able to make the difference I wanted and impact the lives of those around me. It has come full circle. Through core values instilled by my parents, which go back to my childhood and a spirit of adventure and fun, I get to live out my high school dreams.
By George, HR Solutions was born and lives through core values of trust, honesty, integrity and communication. We work with companies and their employees to ensure that these core values exist and are used daily “Transforming Employees Into Valuable Resources.”
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think that anytime that you pursue a goal or purpose, there will be challenges along the way. Once you overcome one challenge, watch out because there is something else around the corner. Early in my career, I found myself working in companies that were male-dominated and finding my place and footing within the companies was challenging. What I did learn was how to communicate with people effectively. I learned the importance of competence and being good at my job and knowing the jobs of others around me.
As I continued to grow and realized that I wanted to step out of the box of Corporate America into entrepreneurship that offered new challenges. When you are working with a company, you have the support of other departments and divisions. When you step out there on your own, you are wearing every hat within that organization. You are also learning along the way. If you don’t make money, there is no money coming in, so your necessity level and goals truly must be aligned. I have had to make the decision as an entrepreneur, do I pay a bill or put gas in my car to make it to a prospective client? During these times, it is important to maintain confidence in yourself and stay the course of your goals. Has it always been smooth? Absolutely not, but I wouldn’t trade my experiences and where I am now for anything.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with By George HR Solutions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am most proud of the fact that my company and I represent caring for individuals and endless possibilities that can have on a company. We sometimes forget that people work for other people and how we care for employees and those around us will measure our success.
I get to see the good in people sometime when they can’t see it in themself. I get to acknowledge people and have them see the possibilities for themselves. When I am through, I always see a smile on their face. Knowing that I left someone in a better place is the reward. I always say you don’t know what type of day someone is having and just a hello or smile can change that for them. Giving people the resources is the easy part; staying with them through their own personal transformation is the commitment. The joy, however, that I feel as I witness someone going through and coming out the other end of their personal transformation can’t be explained. That is what sets me apart from others, and people perceive and feel safe to do so.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
