Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodrika Bailey Scott.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born in Atlanta, raised in Augusta, however Savannah has always been home in my heart. That’s why it made perfect sense to attend and graduate from Armstrong Atlantic State University.
During junior year in 2013, my mentor asked a favor in covering some cleanings for their Airbnb while out of town. Airbnb was fairly new then so I had no idea what I was getting into. After almost a year of only doing as a favor, I was able to negotiate all cleanings as my mentor and husband accumulated more properties.
After covering three properties alone, I knew it was time to grow my team. I quit my part time job as a Church Secretary and immediately put my focus on women. More particularly, women needing a flexible job that pays well and allows them to be with their kids more.
As a former teen mom, I know how hard it is choosing work that doesn’t allow you time to take your kids to school, pick them up from practice or even help with homework. I wanted to provide something different. I created shifts that worked with their schedules and allowed them to bring their kids with them to work if necessary. Some even had their kids helping them. It has been a beautiful journey helping women of all ages, races, sexual identities, nationalities, etc. We have also worked with a few men over our journey.
After seven years we currently serve 12 vacation rental properties in Savannah’s Downtown Historic District.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a great ride but not a smooth one. Challenges come every day in business so you have to be ready to adapt. My biggest challenge was in 2017 when I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. It is an “invisible” illness with a plethora of symptoms. The most common for me were continuous muscle spasms all over my body, loss of balance, and weakness in the limbs. As a cleaner I was affected heavily due to it being a physical job. Loss of mobility made me unable to clean, however my team of contractors including my husband held me all the way down. For two years, I did not work physically. I only managed and wrote the checks. For some this sounds sweet but for someone who LOVES being involved, it was extremely depressing.
I am thankful for the greatest support system. They were patient and kind with me the entire time.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Bailey’s Belles is a cleaning service. We specialize in Vacation Rentals located in the Downtown Historic District of Savannah, Ga.
We are most proud to get most of our clients through Word of Mouth. Until this year’s pandemic, we had not been very social. Our hard work and results have gotten us the job every time. What sets us apart from the rest is that we are very INVOLVED. We care about the homes like it ours. If there are mishaps, we make sure to notify the owners if we cannot remedy the issue ourselves. Our eye for detail makes sure nothing goes unnoticed.
We are also proud to partner in mentor-ship with a non-profit called Shelter from The Rain that provides community outreach, assistance and education to single mothers.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I would definitely recommend the metro city of Atlanta; the possibilities are endless. And with so much travel, the cleaning business cannot lose.
