Today we’d like to introduce you to Fatima Conteh.
Fatima, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I noticed a need for myself (and my community) to pay closer attention to mental health and in 2016, I decided to do something about it. I started organizing meetings to discuss different topics related to wellness and self-care (i.e intention setting, identity, vision planning, nutrition, etc.) This project that started as a labor of love eventually bloomed into a business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road isn’t (and hasn’t been) easy. As a young business, we’re still trying to find the balance between generating real revenue and staying accessible to the communities that we serve. Additionally, COVID-19 had a major impact on our events lineup for the year. Our key to overcoming obstacles has been investing in education, consulting experts and staying true to our mission.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with IndieSoulGlow – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
IndieSoulGlow (ISG) connects people of color to resources, services, and experiences that support independent lifestyles. We use community engagement as a tool to elevate impactful ideas, develop partnerships and build quality content.
SoulCircle is an ISG production. It’s a meetup where people of color explore adaptable approaches in wellness and mental health that can be applied to life and business. Monthly, we create a space for high performers to develop ideas and realign with goals while engaging in different self-care activities. This company is run by three black women: Fatima Conteh, Founder and CEO, Alex Thompkins-Johns, Director of Business and Operations, Kristian Ogungbemi-Muinde, Director of Curriculum Development.
