Today we’d like to introduce you to Mykia Simmons.
Mykia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been great with my hands. I love to decorate for parties, style hair, and I unintentionally discovered that I enjoy designing apparel and crafting as well. It all began with lots of frustration from me placing orders for custom apparel and the design, quality of the products did not satisfy me. Customer service and professionalism seemed to be a common issue as well.
After much research, I ordered the necessary machines and began training myself with the assistance of YouTube and lots of hands-on practice. Originally I was just learning to do it for my family, but once word began to spread because of people admiring my designs, I decided to start my own business. I chose my business name by using my name. I though kreations with a “k” was a nice touch and the number 3 was added because I have three children and I love to include them in anything inspirational that I embark upon.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So far, it has been a pretty enjoyable journey. The only thing I sometimes struggle with is balance. There are times when I get several orders and I have to make sure I am completing them with perfection in a timely manner while maintaining my household as a wife and mother of three.
Please tell us about Kia Kreations3.
KiaKreations3 is a custom apparel and craft business. I specialize in shirt designs, baby gift items, personalized hair bows, custom face masks and more! My most popular items have been the custom masks where I can put anything from a person’s face to a company logo, and the baby keepsake elephant bundles that include a plush baby elephant where I put baby birth stats on the ears of the elephant, a blanket with their name, a robe with their name, and a bib with their name. I am most proud of how my designs are admired by so many people and I just learned how to do this five moths ago. I know that I am not the first or even the 1000th person to design tees and other crafts, but I believe what sets me apart from others is how most of my designs are self-made and I don’t have a special machine that makes hundred of shirts at a time, my designs are custom and handmade with lots of love.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t have done anything differently. I believe everything began the way it should’ve and I am blessed that it is steadily flowing. I learn more everyday.
