Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Davis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up being the youngest of 8, I’ve always had my fair share of what life should consist of. I saw all my siblings grow up to be so successful and take up great careers and be their own bosses! So, I knew I couldn’t settle for anything less. My family is full of individuals with entrepreneurial spirits, musicianship, and people who value art and composure. I was one of the many who took up more talents and had to learn how to juggle them. My parents used to joke around and call me “The Jill of all Trades” because I was so skilled and could do many things; however, to my disadvantage, I never mastered any of them. I thought to myself, “What is something I can do and be really good at it that sets me apart from the others?”. After having that conversation with myself, I began to take up makeup and started practicing on my face literally every day. I would even practice with my friends and family members. Then, I noticed that they would pay me for my time and services, so I began to create a booking site and promote myself on all my social media platforms. With the power of Youtube and social media, I was able to gain a great deal of clientele.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Anyone who does makeup knows that it’s a trial and error experience and trust me, I’m still in that process! A few challenges may be that the foundation isn’t the correct shade or maybe you aren’t used to working with shades different than your own. It’s all about repetition and consistency. Being that I am only 18 years old, I know that there is a lot that I have to learn and I’m willing to do so. The beauty industry emphasizes that a way a person does makeup can change every day. There’s always something new out there or a new technique is invented, so it’s important to stay updated. Sometimes I struggle with consistency and keeping up with the latest trends, but that never stops me from perfecting my craft to the best of my ability.
Please tell us about Caitlin’s Eye Candy.
Being that I am an aspiring upcoming MUA (makeup artist), I pride Caitlin’s Eye Candy on embracing the true beauty of every client. Every individual is beautiful and unique in their own way. I tell my clients all the time, “You’re naturally pretty, makeup just enhances the beauty.” Makeup is a craft; it’s art. There are no secrets to it! I believe I am known distinctly for my creativity as an artist/creator and my customer service. It goes beyond just applying a makeup brush to someone’s face. Customer service is huge in any business! It’s one of the main focuses of an entrepreneur. I treat my clients with the utmost respect to ensure that they have a positive experience in hopes of them coming back
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would’ve probably started doing makeup earlier. I started taking clients around October 2019 (my senior year of high school); however, I started to learn how to do makeup in my sophomore year. I believe that with more experience and time that I will reach my ultimate goal as an aspiring makeup artist. There are so many resources out there from talented MUA’s teaching makeup classes to free Youtube videos! It’s up to you to take the time out of your day to learn and perfect your craft.
