Today we’d like to introduce you to Krissy The Butcher.
Krissy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was always obsessed with art as a kid. All types of art forms including pencil, charcoal, clay, batik…etc. Once I got into college, I lost touch with these art forms but soon after fell into the local tattoo scene.
From there, I was fortunate to meet Lady L, who taught me how to do my 1st first tattoo on my brother & then I took off with the art form. Refined my skills in a couple of tattoo shops & eventually linked up with my friend & business partner Quinten Harper to open up our own shop, Bloodline Dynasty.
Now I have an awesome tattoo squad of my own that is really making an impact on the art scene.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, it’s been a pretty exciting adventure. The tattoo industry is very fast pace; no day is the same.
The biggest struggle was proving myself as a black female tattoo artist. You have to really learn to be a shark in this industry. As a black woman, if you don’t have a no-nonsense attitude, people will run all over you.
My persona, “The Butcher,” was born from taking no shit & demanding respect.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My tattoo shop, Bloodline Dynasty LLC, is an absolute gem! We pride ourselves in a higher-end tattoo experience. Our artists all specialize in a wide variety of tattoo technique & the shop decor is beautiful.
In creating the shop, we really wanted to birth a modern-day African dynasty feel & I think we have achieved that vibe. We are truly representing for our culture.
My personal tattoo technique is very diverse. Black and grey realism, full color, fine line work & geometry are a few of the skills I possess.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very reserved but a creative child. I loved art, animals & books.
I was always involved in art class. My art teachers would let me stay in the art studio hours after school was out. Art was an escape for me & allowed me to express myself being the shy kid that I was.
So naturally, when tattooing was introduced to me, I fit right in. Spending hours in the art studio was what I grew up doing.
