Meet Dr. Chinasa Elue of True Titans Consulting Group in Stone Mountain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Chinasa Elue.

Dr. Elue, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a Nigerian-American, I felt inclined to pursue a career in medicine under my parents’ urgings but soon realized that my passions lied elsewhere. I pivoted to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia, M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State University, and my doctorate in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education and a Certificate in Policy Studies from Clemson University. Fresh out of graduate school, I took on my first professorship appointment, where I was able to utilize my intellectual prowess and academic training to work with students and conduct research around issues of educational access and equity for underserved populations.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I started off in my first academic appointment, I was excited at the opportunities to teach and support other students in their educational and professional endeavors. Unfortunately, what I was not prepared for were the daily microaggressions and discrimination I would face from my students and colleagues based on my race, age, and gender. When I began to experience health complications due to prolonged stress and trauma from being in that environment daily, I knew I needed to pivot. Through gaining the tools and resources to successfully navigate that tumultuous work environment, I eventually transitioned on to a different university. Also, as a result of my experiences, I went on to start my life coaching and consulting firm to support professional women in navigating negative and traumatic workplace experiences. Through my speaking, coaching, and consulting, I am able to work with professional women to experience more job satisfaction, better work-life harmony, and joy- both personally and professionally.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment in my career so far was being awarded early tenure and promotion to associate professor. I came to the realization early on that there is no perfect blueprint for one’s career. I think once it dawned on me that I have a choice to move on and exert agency over my career, I began making decisions that aligned with my own values and desires to live a more balanced and fulfilled life. People often feel trapped or unsatisfied in their careers. If you hate your job or your career path, you have a choice to decide whether you will be miserable or if you will transition on to get into a career path that aligns with your life goals. We are living on borrowed time and life is too short to stay in a place where you feel unworthy, frustrated, and unmotivated. We owe it to ourselves to explore the things that make our hearts come alive to the many possibilities of what God has created us to do and not be afraid to dream of the infinite possibilities that lie ahead. My motivations are fueled by my immense love for Jesus Christ and my dreams of leaving a lasting legacy to my children and future generations to come.
