Meet Cori Cranford of Bluebird Homecare in Sandy Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cori Cranford.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cori. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in North Georgia. I still live in North Georgia with my husband and our three children. People always ask me, how did you get into the field of caring for others? My story starts from a young age. Growing up and watching my father battle diabetes, which resulted in a multitude of health issues, including kidney failure, I knew I wanted to be in the medical field. Watching the home health nurses come in and take care of his wounds from the amputation of his leg and helping him with in-home dialysis, it was almost a natural instinct to jump in and help any way I could.

It was during these trying times. I knew what my calling in life was! When my father passed, I was already attending college and working towards earning my associates in nursing. I started working in an assisted living facility as a patient care tech and quickly worked my way from the floor to corporate as the South Eastern Assistant Director of Operations. It didn’t take me long to realize, working with the elderly was where I needed to be. After a few years of working with Assisted Living Communities and Homecare companies, I would meet an individual who was interested in opening their own homecare company, so off we went to lay the foundation for our own homecare company. Unfortunately, our time together would be cut short. Towards the end of that path, I found out my grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer and not long after her diagnosis. My grandfather was diagnosed as well.

After taking care of both of them until they passed, I realized yet again, taking care of the elderly was where I truly needed to be in life, but for some reason, I ignored my calling and re-enrolled in college to earn my degree in; psychology. After a few years in the mental health field, I just didn’t feel satisfied at the end of the day. I couldn’t put my finger on it but knew something in my life needed a change. About a year ago, I took a leap of faith and logged onto Zip Recruiter and immediately, as in the first job that popped up, saw a job posting for a Homecare company looking for a Regional Director for their Atlanta location. I didn’t read the description. Oddly enough, I felt the urge just to click, auto-apply. After hitting the button, I remember laughing out loud, thinking to myself, why did you just do that? So I went back to read the description, researched the company, and then prayed, if this is where I was meant to be, then put me where I need to be.

I am beyond thankful I took that leap of faith that day! What was the end result? Well, here I am, nearly one year later, the Regional Director for Bluebird Homecare’s Atlanta office, and I couldn’t be more proud to work for such an amazing company. I have a career, a purpose, something to wake up to each morning and be proud to do it! Helping the elderly stay in their homes with their loved ones is one of the most rewarding accomplishments I get to take action in on a daily basis. My motto for the Atlanta office is, “It is our greatest hope to provide you with peace of mind in knowing your family and loved ones are cared for beyond your expectations.” I truly mean that as I know very well, the importance of having compassionate caregivers and nurses caring for someone’s dad, mom, grandparent, etc. I could not see myself doing anything different and look forward to many, many more years of providing home care services in Atlanta and surrounding areas to those in need.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? No, nothing in life is always easy. We’re all going to struggle and make mistakes, but our ability to choose how we respond will depict just how smooth our roads will be.
