Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Fawaz.
Deborah loves humor, food, family and the beach! She also loves being around other women and is passionate about encouraging them to embrace their natural beauty – becoming more confident and comfortable women. Deborah was born in Joliet, Illinois and raised by her parents in five different cities in Illinois. Dad, a Methodist minister, and her mother, a banker. She has one younger brother, Dave. After graduating from high school in Wauconda, Illinois, she attended Illinois State University, where she received a Bachelor of Education degree in special education. Following the birth of her first child, she went on to pursue her Master’s degree in Learning Disabilities and Behavior Disorders at Northern Illinois University.
She was always interested in hair and makeup. For her 16th birthday, her mother took her to Merle Norman for a makeup lesson, to ensure that she looked her best and knew what she was doing. From there, her interest in makeup and hair expanded. She watched every TV show she could about makeup, took classes at the local mall and junior college and generally, read and practiced on herself. She took certification courses in color analysis, makeup and image consultation. When friends and family would admire her look, she offered to teach them how to duplicate it. Soon, friends and neighbors were hiring her for special events, weddings, and private lessons.
After teaching in the public school system for 34 years, she retired to follow her passion – image consultation. Although makeup is her first love, she advises others about color selection for clothing, hair and makeup, does professional makeup for headshots, events, public speakers and private industry. She enjoys teaching workshops about color, makeup application and overall image. She and her husband, Dan, have five adult children and now reside in Flowery Branch, GA. They share their home with their 12-year-old Maltese, Roxy.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Learning about marketing and social media strategies did not come naturally. Having sales conversations with potential clients had to be a learned skill. COVID definitely put the stop on many of my activities since I work physically close to people.

I recently participated in an activity for a sales course where I contacted clients and asked them to describe their experience with me in one word, and how did they “see” me in my business. Here are the most frequent comments: knowledgeable, kind, creative, excellence, joy, authority, eloquent, expert, elegant.
I have a VIP day called “Make Me Fabulous,” where we design looks for people that reflect their personality, their lifestyle and their brand. This is in a relationship as to what colors are most flattering on them for hair, makeup and hair color. Included are makeup lessons specific to the events they attend, and a wardrobe edit to keep them stylish, polished and professional with a very short shopping list. I teach workshops on First Impressions, Networking, Color, Elevating Your Physical Presence both online and in-person, and Makeup Application Classes.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as setting goals, stepping into your greatness, believing in yourself and marching through the fear of the next greatest “thing.” Always evolving and embracing the possibilities.
