Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Neville.
Ashley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Ashley Neville. I am from Durham, North Carolina. Ashlaine Designs was found in 2018. I’ve always had a passion for design and creativity. I’ve been drawing since I was five years old. Years later, I had an obsession with computers. This fascination with my interest in graphic and web design. I’ve worked for agencies before; however, I felt I really couldn’t be expressive within my work. So I left and created a company of my very own. It was the scariest decision I ever made. However, I am thankful I took that risk.
I am currently a Graphic Designer, Illustrator, and Brand Strategist. I have a small business based in Durham, North Carolina. After starting my graphic design company (Ashlaine Designs LLC) two years ago, I have developed a successful business in the design industry. I have now worked on over 250 logo designs as well as rebranded several companies. I’ve learned to successfully manage graphic design projects from corporate to individual organizations. I try to work closely with clients to create a vision and conceive design concepts. My motto is to effectively build, motivate, and create unique designs to establish your brand.
Has it been a smooth road?
For me personally, as my business has grown A LOT in two years, entrepreneurship has been good to me. I went from making barely $1,000 a month to a consistent $5,000 to making $10,000 in sales within a month. This sounds great; it is. However, managing 15-25 clients per month as a solo entrepreneur became exhausting. I have an awesome assistant but, I became unorganized, drained, had low performance, couldn’t reach my deadlines, and was tired. I was shipping products, designing, managing my books, writing thank you cards, meeting clients, zoom calls, forwarding emails, and boom my battery became so low that I didn’t have the energy to even create.
Most people spend the majority of their waking hours working. Entrepreneurs, we work around the clock. As for me, I can spend 4-6 hours on one design. The biggest problem I had was time management and organization. I needed to find balance. I encourage all entrepreneurs to do so as well. Take time away from your business to regroup so you can perform and give your best self as well as provide great service. When you’re burned out, problems seem insurmountable. However, with every problem, there is a solution.

Ashlaine Designs LLC is a Graphic Design & Branding Agency. As a Graphic Designer, I create two-dimensional art to create visual concepts. It can vary anywhere between designing logos and layout designs for print or websites, magazines, product labels, and advertisements. My job is to understand how to communicate with brands visually and effectively. I am most proud that I was able to take a leap of faith to start this business. Nothing brings me more joy to see my client’s vision come to life. We, as a company, are very personable and care about our client’s needs. Our motto is “Effectively building, motivating, and creating unique designs to establish your brand.” That’s how we like to be set apart.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is a great place to start a business. Especially for upcoming black business owners. The more businesses that evolve, the more we are needed! Design is the future. Our services are constantly needed daily by corporations and firms.
