Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrell Newell.
Terrell, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up in Miami FL, singing has always been something I loved to do. I loved harmonies, different sounds. I just had a different type of ear at a young age. As I got older, I found a new love in writing. I would always write depending on my mood and eventually, everything I wrote turned into a song. Music became a huge part of my life, singing in church, talent shows, and recording songs at home on music programs. The older I got the more experience I gained and I loved every bit of it. In 2010 I got caught up in love and life that I didn’t push my singing career anymore. I lost my passion for music. I just didn’t care to do it anymore. Fast forward to 2017. I decided I needed a change, a fresh start. I moved to Atlanta in hopes of getting my drive back and fulfill my dream of becoming a singer/songwriter. My first few months in Atlanta was a little hard being that I was homesick and missing my life back in Miami but I didn’t give up.
Later in 2017, I came across an audition for a well-known group Antwoin Holman & Trans4mation. I was nervous but decided to audition. That’s when my life changed. Once I made it past the audition, I began singing with the group and doors opened for me left and right. I would sing background vocals for different local artist and at a well-known event for singers called Groove Lounge by Shawn Joyner. Being around so many talented artists pushed me to work on my music. In 2020 I began writing and recording again just for the privacy of my ear. In April 2020, I decided to release a single that eventually birth my Self Titled Debut Album. Never in a million years did I think I would release an album. I received positive feedback from everyone who heard the album, which opened more doors for me. The different local artists started to reach out to me in regards to assisting with songwriting. Everything I dreamed of doing, I’m now doing it. Now September 2020, I’m gearing up to release my new single followed by a sophomore album entitled “AfroRnB.”
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey wasn’t easy. I had to leave everything and everyone behind to get to where I am today. Most of my family and friends still live in Miami so moving away, I had to start from scratch.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m known for my singing and now as a songwriter. I’m so proud that I pushed myself to let the world see my true talents. I think what sets me apart from everyone else is my versatility. I’m really unexpected so you’ll never know what’s coming from me whether it’s the type of song I write or even the way I may sing a song.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment of my career so far would definitely be the release of my first album. I never thought that I would release an album letting the world into my life, my thoughts, my feelings. To hear people sing the songs that I wrote Brought a different type of emotion from me.
