Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah McWhorter.
Savannah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
What started as a small hobby has quickly turned to the most fun I’ve ever had. I have always been a creative person, and Pieces of Blonde provides an outlet for all things different, colorful, and exciting! I was born and raised right outside of Atlanta and have recently moved to Chicago to attend law school, but my roots will always be in the South, so it makes me so happy that I get to see my earrings thrive in several retail locations in and around the Greater Metro Atlanta area. I am so thankful for this busy, exhausting, beautiful season of life, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Pieces of Blonde!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started Pieces of Blonde, I knew very little about polymer clay. I had no one to look to for advice or guidance, so I spent hundreds of hours practicing, working, designing, and even sometimes crying, trying to perfect different techniques so that I could make my work the best it could be. Since the start, the quality of my work has drastically improved, and it makes me so happy that I have customers who appreciate the quality of the items I make. Each earring is unique in its own way, and it brings me so much joy to be able to create special items that stand the test of time. With that being said, I am also in law school, so running a business and attending school full time is no simple task. I have learned more about myself in the past two months than I ever could have imagined. Each day brings something new to the table, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Pieces of Blonde – what should we know?
Pieces of Blonde is a passion project inspired by my very first love in life: fashion. My mom owns a small women’s clothing boutique, so accessorizing runs in my blood. I have been a lover of statement jewelry for as long as I can remember, and being able to produce my very own collections is such a magical experience. What sets Pieces of Blonde apart from the rest are the bold prints and exciting designs that cannot be found anywhere else. At the end of the day, the thing that I am most proud of is the kindness and overwhelming support from my customers. Seeing the feedback and reading the little notes attached to orders means the world to me. My goal with my business is to take every ounce of love and kindness that I have received and put it right back into the world!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Clothing and accessories have always made me feel capable of doing anything. I have so much love and passion for every item that I craft, and it is that very passion that drives the success of my business! I want people to feel capable and powerful when they wear their Pieces of Blonde.
