Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Owens.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rachel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hello! My name is Rachel Owens and I am the creator behind the Lifestyle brand, Rachel Amy Owens. I am also a Heart Warrior and Heart Mom to 1.5-year-old Heart Warrior, Eli. My brand focuses on self-care and appreciation, family & motherhood, marriage and a little of everything in between!
Living with a congenital heart defect and becoming a mother of a son also living with a congenital heart defect, while being present for my oldest son and a dedicated military wife, my goal is to encourage other women to triumph through their trials! With Eli having two open-heart surgeries during a pandemic, life continues to throw us curveballs, but staying positive and faith-filled has been my saving grace. Living with my condition for over 30 years has prepared me for these moments and I’m ready to take the world by storm while trumping through my own.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most of my struggles have been health-related. Multiple surgeries for myself, holding on to my life by a thread due to heart failure, overcoming obstacles and bringing precious boys into this world have made the journey worth it. Now my son is going into his second open heart surgery in a very different time for humanity.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
As a content curator, I specialize in creating content that represents the brands I use and love in an authentic way that also highlights the beauty of that specific brand or product. I often share about lifestyle & family brands and beauty! You will also see me often share as a heart health advocate, working with non-profits like the American Heart Association. Being a creative at heart has also allowed me to run my own small graphic design company— Mind of Wonders, design company which is currently operates online at www.mindofwonders.etsy.com. I have a current focus on a specific product.
My self-designed and produced Planning Journal, which is tailored to the Black Woman or girl. I’m super excited about this coming out as it has been something I designed and sat on for some time. I’m just proud to see it come to fruition. I think one thing that sets me apart is that I just want my audience to feel joy and strength more than anything! I want my brand to make them feel empowered!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is traveling with my family. My dad, who passed away this year, would drive us in a van, with my mom riding shotgun and they would fuss over following the map. Me and my brothers would sit in the very back with the bed down and play games like “guess who” and “I spy” (does anyone remember those vans lol).
