Today we’d like to introduce you to Giovanni Gonzalez.
Giovanni, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Colombia, lived in Belize during my high school years and I currently reside in Atlanta, GA.
As a first-time immigrant, I started selling newspapers on traffic lights in Miami, Florida, then I moved to GA to work in construction for a few years and finally I settled to work in the kitchen and as a waiter for many restaurants until I discovered the seed of personal growth and development.
In 2003, I enrolled at Kennesaw State University and eventually I got a degree in International affairs with a concentration in International business and ten years later I got Masters in the Science of Management and Leadership from Strayer University. Currently, I am the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Mindful Performance Blueprint (MPB) and the creator of the three day intensive leadership and business retreat, Access the Leader Within.
MPB is a boutique consulting company committed to elevating the performance of individuals and organizations through the transformation of culture, leadership development, and the implementation of strategic leadership initiatives. Now, with over 12 years of experience, I have worked with leadership teams at all levels of an organization and have trained thousands of business professionals in Africa, North America, the Caribbean and Latin America.
Anecdotes of my life and personal transformation have been published in my book “La Mente de un Inmigrante.” (The Mind of an Immigrant, 2011) and my life story was aired on Telemundo under the title of “breaking barriers.” Furthermore, I am frequently invited to speak as a business expert on the weekly program “Conexion” on Univision.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think anyone escapes the real struggles of life. As a first time immigrant, my first struggle was that I didn’t know anyone. I didn’t have any money or a place to sleep and I didn’t know where the next meal was going to come from for many months. I worked three jobs while I was going to school full time. Those where really intense five years of my life. Every semester I was struggling to find the money to stay in school. When I finally graduated, I started a business and soon after I had a skydiving accident that let to a personal financial crisis. I went out of business, I lost my house, I fell into a depression, and later my relationship.
