Meet Kelvin Ominiabohs and Lansana Sesay of Winner’s Circle Podcast and Outreach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelvin Ominiabohs and Lansana Sesay.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kelvin and Lansana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We are both recent graduates of Bowie State University. Just like many others who are looking for job opportunities during this pandemic, we took the route of creating a business to showcase other’s talents in a different way. We thought that a podcast was something that was untapped, but so efficient to share stories and ideas to others. We have plenty of friends who also started their own businesses, but had no way to actually share their ideas or stories.

We wanted to be that platform to help those who started their business and needed a place for their voices to be heard. We soon found out that many people had similar issues and concerns of what to do next with their brand. We also wanted to become a place where people can get resources and advice while on their business journey. As time progressed, we were able to have multiple entrepreneurs on our show at one time. Our conversations are business-related, but we also have thought-provoking segments. That creates another avenue for us to tap into the current events of society. In just six months, we’ve had forty-six episodes and have spoken to over one hundred entrepreneurs. On the flip side, we also wanted to physically give back to our communities. So we started outreach projects that catered towards the homeless and students from all grade levels in the metropolitan area (DMV).

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When running a business, expect the unexpected. Originally we produced our podcast through Instagram Live. We figured that our target audience would be able to directly see us if we streamed on IG. No one else has ever done that before. Usually, others make shows for YouTube of their podcast. We decided to go live as our podcast, then strip the audio to anchor. Anchor then streamlines our podcast to seven other platforms (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc). That way, our audience can tune in as we are live, and if they miss anything, they can catch the audio later on. However, internet connection is son of a gun. We weren’t prepared for the interphase of Instagram’s audio. When on live, two people can’t talk at the same. One guest has to wait for the other to finish, or otherwise, it will cut off the audio of the current speaker. If anyone had bad internet, just throw the whole show away haha. Podcast is heavy on audio, it’s for listening. The listeners have to be able hear each speaker clearly, so everyone is understood.

Winner’s Circle Podcast and Outreach – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Winner’s Circle! A podcast and outreach that explores the mindset of entrepreneurs, where we discuss their secrets to success. A hub for entrepreneurship, on any scale/level. Winner’s Circle creates an open atmosphere that’ll inspire others to learn, grow, and maybe one day run their own business. We are dedicated to serving the community. Our primary focus is eliminating poverty, violence, and the lack of education in primed African American communities. In doing so, we will create a sound, fortified community for the younger generation to develop in. We provide opportunity to individuals who enjoy entrepreneurship and would want the world to hear about their products, services, trades, or skills.

Winner’s Circle is unique, we shine light on small businesses. We don’t chase clout. Instead, we focus on individuals who are doing great things but don’t receive the recognition for it. We tell untold stories and host outreach events to give back to the community.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We define success as being able to connect and share the fruits our labor to our friends or family. When we’re at a place where we can give our time, services, knowledge to those around us in a productive way, that is success. “Kelvin Ominiabohs”

We know when we’re successful when we give back to the people we love. Simply put, success to us is a job well done. “Lansana Sesay”
