Today we’d like to introduce you to Zhana Pesa.
Zhana, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been in hospitality since I moved to the USA in the late 90ties. After getting a job as a Director of Sales and then General Manager at the NYC Event Venue and working there for almost ten years doing weddings, B days, corporate events, I found myself gravitating more and more to design aspect of this events. Luckily, an owner at the venue was also a friend and allowed me to start doing floral design for small events as well as my regular job. Smaller events became bigger events and soon, I found myself doing weddings with planners all over NY, Including beautiful vineyards of Long Island. I was featured in Best of Long Island, Style Me Pretty and other blogs and publications.
After getting married to my husband, we decided to move to Atlanta. I had to look for a job here and put my flowers on hold. So, while continuing my career in hospitality, I slowly started to build my flower design business here in Georgia. This creative side of me has never left me, and I knew I need to find a solution and do event design full time. I just didn’t have any choice, in a way, if I wanted to be happy. So here I am, full force, trying to make my small business a success!
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest struggle was holding a full-time job and build my business on side. The biggest hurdle, for me was letting go of the security of a job, and stop self-doubting. Once I stopped with this “nonsense” and focused solely on my Urban Blooms Atlanta, I could feel my own strength growing and my confidence rising. At this juncture, I feel the sky is the limit and I can accomplish anything.

I am really proud of my brand I continue to build. It is very much event design, but very custom. We understand that every event is a world on its own, and we treat it as such. Whether you are a corporate client in need of weekly display; planning a small birthday dinner for ten in a local restaurant, lavish party on a rooftop for 200 friends and family, or traditional affair for 500 guests, you will find me equally approachable, sensitive to your needs and above all professional. I will deliver what I promise and more. I would also love to expand into doing a destination wedding with a full set up for weddings in my original homeland Croatia.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta in general, and the entire metro area and further – is an excellent place for startups of any kind. Georgia is a great place with amazing people and I love it, and I feel my business and my family will do really well here.
