Thanks for sharing your story with us Houston “Huey P”. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been interested in filming and editing. I was my families go to person to put together slideshows, and I filmed many school plays during high school. I really got into filming and directing music videos around 2017. I focused on finding local artists and building a portfolio. The passion for it has only continued to grow.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it hasn’t always been smooth. Like with any job there are plenty of ups and downs. I have had to learn how to interact with the many different personalities of not only artists but also other industry professionals. Also, people aren’t always supportive of your dreams and work.
Huey P Productions – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Huey P Productions is a production company specializing in music videos and behind the scenes. I’m proud that I have been able to build a respectable reputation. Because of this, I have been able to work with people that I admire and look up to. I believe my style of shooting sets me apart from others. Everyone has a different style of shooting–it’s like trying to find the right barber/hairstylist.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is enjoying what I’m doing. It’s continuing to better myself every day. It’s humbling myself to know I don’t know everything and that there are many people to learn from. Having success isn’t always about being the most recognizable or having the most money in your account. I measure success by being able to reach goals I have set, learning from past mistakes, being a man of action, and being disciplined.
