Today we’d like to introduce you to Leshelle Cummings.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
So I love shopping, but I would always want my mother or my sister to come along with me. One day we all were out shopping and I seen a female that was dressed similar to how I was dressed. I got really excited and I told my mother and sister that she is dressed like a Sophisticated Tomboy! I have no idea how the two words came into my mind! All I know is from that day forward, everywhere I went I would find someone dressing like a Sophisticated Tomboy and I would make it a point to say “She is dressed like a Sophisticated Tomboy!” One day my mother and sister told me I needed to do something with it (Sophisticated Tomboy). My first reaction was “Umm NO” (lol). Then one day I just asked the Lord, “What is it that I should be doing with these words that just popped up in my head?” And here I am two years later, the owner of Sophisticated Tomboy clothing brand!
Has it been a smooth road?
My journey with Sophisticated Tomboy has been challengingly rewarding ” I think I just made that up! Or not!” (LOL) But I came into my business with absolutely no experience, so the challenges for me are to make sure I get as much knowledge as I can to help improve myself as a business owner as well as improve my brand. I love soaking up information to help improve my brand daily. Transparent moment: So it was a time where I was about to give away all of my apparel because I wasn’t getting any sales and I wasn’t posting about my business and I was about to give up because I wasn’t feeling it anymore. Then one day my business page was hacked on Instagram. I was like ” Wait a minute now!” What is really going on?” It was right then I knew it was time for me to make some changes with my business. I started to appreciate my business more and took it more serious as I had to figure out the pieces to get my page back. I started to enjoy the process and I knew that was my wake up call to get it together!
Please tell us about Sophisticated Tomboy.
My idea behind my brand came about once I realize “MY” style is “MY” style! Whether I’m dressed up in heels or dressed down in sneakers, I look good! Sophisticated Tomboy was created to take us out of this stereotypical [box] society tries to put us in. My brand is a representation showing you can dress up or dress down and still by FLY. I want people to BE confident, BE comfortable, BE inspirational, BE stylish but most importantly… BE YOU!
Sophisticated Tomboy is known for being FLY in all worlds!
I’m most proud that people are really rocking with my brand. I know there are a lot of Sophisticated Tomboys out there and I’m just excited some have supported my brand!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see Sophisticated Tomboy in stores for everyone to purchase all over! My creative juices have been flowing so maybe start getting into some custom pieces as well. Sophisticated Tomboy is a fashion lifestyle! And as I continue to grow everyday, so will the Sophisticated Tomboy brand!
