Meet Jess and Jacqara Jackson of Copper House Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess and Jacqara Jackson.

Jess & Cara got engaged in Europe. While on their trip, they stayed in hostels, houseboats and typical Airbnb listings. It was on this trip that they learned the value of short-term/ vacation rentals.

When they purchased their first home in Detroit (where Jess was born & raised) they thought it could be a dope opportunity to open their own doors and list it as a shared space on Airbnb. With Michigan being a recreationally legal state, they made their space cannabis+.

What has unfolded from this is a community activated space. From overnight lodging for travelers to lifestyle photoshoots for cannabis content creators, Copper House has become more than a space, but a whole mood.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Cannabis is a difficult industry. From social stigma, a harmful history, and a lack of diversity and access to ever-changing regulation and costly licensing, choosing to work in cannabis is choosing to work.

Please tell us about Copper House Detroit.
We’re proud to be Detroit’s first Bud and Breakfast. We’ve been hosting and curating experiences that feel valuable for our community and have addressed a range of issues within cannabis.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Jess loved driving around Detroit and seeing the architecture and thinking of fun ways to decorate spaces. She secretly always wanted to be an interior designer and loves sharing her home with others!

Cara values neighborhood connections, community and home. She remembers watching fireworks collectively with her neighbors, celebrating community traditions, and enjoying the lingering scent of Fruity Pebbles in the air– she’s from Battle Creek the home of Post cereal.
