Meet Robert Harris of Stylistic Science in Long Island

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Harris.

Robert, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My clothing brand Stylistic Science was founded in 2012 during my freshman year of college. The concept behind my brand was to incorporate the unique component of science into street fashion. My goal was to educate the youth on the importance of science/knowledge and use clothing as the source of communication. In between my classes, I would work on different clothing designs for my upcoming seasonal collection. Once finalized, I would get my designs printed and embroidered on different clothing pieces, such as shirts, hoodies, jackets, and hats. I started selling everything directly from my college dorm. Once word of mouth got around, I had numerous amounts of students at the university coming to my room to pick up my Stylistic Science gear. As my brand started to grow and become more known some celebrities started reaching out to me about my clothing, such as rappers Fetty Wap and Ab-Soul. I was also fortunate enough to be invited by CBS News to get interviewed about my clothing brand.

As time went on, I started to think of innovative ways to keep my brand sustainable and appealing. In the beginning of 2020, I developed my own IOS App called “Don’t Be A Hypebeast” and launched it into the App Store. This gaming app resembles the classic arcade game space invaders, but with a fresh urban twist. One of the coolest features to the game is that you are rewarded (promo discount codes) if you receive certain high scores. I added this concept to my app to attract people to download it and also give them an opportunity to save money on their Stylistic Science orders. As I take time to sit back and realize all that I have accomplish with my brand so far it makes me even more hungry for what is to come in the future!

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a pretty smooth road for me with my brand. However, some minor challenges I’ve faced was timing setbacks on releasing my seasonal collections. Several times work or school took up a huge chunk of my time and conflicted with my design process.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a fashion designer and creative director. My brand clothing brand Stylistic Science brings an innovative urban look into the street fashion industry by showcasing the importance of science and knowledge through apparel. Every clothing design released has a deep message/concept behind it, whether it’s pertaining to the significance of a scientific molecule or the knowledge behind something. I must say that I am most proud of the fact that I’ve educated a lot of people simply through my clothing and inspired people to create their own clothing business. What sets me apart from others is that every aspect of my brand is geared towards positively influencing others. I don’t design clothes for myself, I design them to help educate the masses and to empower them.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see myself potentially opening my own clothing shop in different locations around the country.
