Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Davis.
Jonathan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Bringing out the best in others is what I believe to be the highest calling of humankind. In a world that can seem isolating and foreign, we each need sources of guidance, refuge, and direction.
While working in news media, I was fortunate to encounter and interact with people from all walks of life. As a reporter, it was my goal to make the interviewee feel comfortable enough to openly share their story. It was not unusual for those interactions to shift from talking about the story to more candid conversations once the cameras were off, sometimes sharing deeply personal stories and feelings. The recurring refrain I heard was, “I don’t know why I’m sharing this”, or “I don’t even know you and I’m sharing my life story.”
As those sorts of interactions became increasingly frequent, I decided that it must mean something. I then learned about life coaching and quickly realized that this was something I was supposed to be doing. I wanted to help people with their lives; I wanted to assist others reach their goals; I wanted to help others see what they are made of and bring out their best. A strong desire for excellence and a belief in the scripture that states, “…study to show thyself approved” led me to enroll in a life coach certification program. I truly believe that was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It is my belief that training and preparation are critical when working with people and their unique situations. While I realize that it is not everyone’s desire to receive formal training, I believe that it was critical to ensuring my success in this role.
Even from a young age, I’ve had an eye for style. The image consulting component of my business came about after realizing that I was frequently asked by others to help put together an outfit. Over time it became apparent that image consulting goes beyond just wardrobe; it’s a more wholistic idea of what you want people to see when they see you. This idea or image entails your persona, your clothes, and your speech. When you step out of your house, your image becomes a huge part of who you are. It becomes necessary to not only act the part but also look the part.
The first true spark came when a friend reached out to me and communicated that she really wanted help in restructuring and reorganizing her life. I had already been a certified life coach for at least a year and had not done anything serious with it. So, we had our first session. During the session some longstanding walls came down, and I got to really see who and where she was. I was able to open her eyes to how her speech, thoughts, and decisions were negatively affecting her life. At the point of tears and considerable breakthrough, I knew that this was what I was meant to do! That same night I reached out to a web designer, it was time. I had been paying for a domain name for years and had made my business official by creating an LLC, but had not seriously promoted either for years!
Has it been a smooth road?
The road to becoming an official coach was relatively straightforward. But then I got to a point where I had to ask myself the hard questions: “How do I get clients? What should I charge for my services? How do I incorporate social media into my advertising campaign? Am I posting enough or am I posting too much?” It became apparent that the difficulty lay not in creating a vision but in bringing that vision and the ideas to reality. Having the right people and the right connections in place was critical. There will be hiccups and setbacks, but we should decide to treat them as learning opportunities and springboards into new pathways.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
When I enter the city of Atlanta, I feel the spirit of progression. It seems almost tangible! I love it! There is always something going on, plenty of attractions, restaurants to try, and new adventures to explore. The aspect I enjoy the least would definitely be the traffic. It’s like everyone in the city decided to go somewhere at the exact time! Living in Augusta has been a joy. It’s a growing city undergoing some serious evolution and transformation, which has made living here a unique experience. Augusta is a great place to start a business, raise a family and retire. My primary criticism and least favorite thing about Augusta would be the early closing times for most businesses and attractions.
