Today we’d like to introduce you to Inglish Reed-Jones.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m The Joyful Change Agent! Also known as a free spirit and a passionate doer! I graduated magna cum laude from Bowling Green State University, earning my Bachelor of Communication with a focus in Advocacy and emphasis in Social Services. I’m a proud millennial on the move, determined to unite my fellow like-minded peers to be change agents in our communities and world. For me, it’s simply not enough to exist in our societies without making positive impact. I’m determined to leave my mark. I created a platform and movement to execute this exact purpose, MILLENNIALS-VS-EVERYBODY! MVE is a social enterprise and a movement for millennial-doers who want to make a positive change within themselves and their communities.
I began MVE from my inspiration living in South Africa and being a lively problem solver! After I graduated from college, I spent three months in South Africa and I was so inspired to create change on a large scale. This trip really made me realized I am able to adapt in any setting, I am passionate and beyond capable to start a foundation/nonprofit or social business. Once I returned home, I realized it was hard to find a like-minded community of young people who wanted to continue to develop personally, professionally and civically. Now don’t get me wrong, I love to have a good time, but growth is extremely important to me. In college, there are many opportunities to go to workshops and events that keep you sharp, but once I came home, it was hard to find a space where I felt apart of something, a place where I could evolve and connect with others. I realized I was not the only young person feeling this way. I began to game plan and MILLENNIALS-VS-EVERYBODY came to me. MVE is a membership-based social enterprise that empowers and equips millennials with intellectual tools, professional resources and civic engagement opportunities to lead greater lives.
Since its founding, I have been accepted as a Forbes fellow, began a tech company, sat on advisory boards, completed my BMe Skillman Foundation fellowship, had my very first magazine cover story and been accepted to many of the top small business programs in Detroit. We have done events at Microsoft, hosted an event of with the council President Brenda Jones, partnered with professors from University of Michigan, University of Detroit Mercy and Wayne State, had rooftop events in Downtown Detroit and so much more. To date, we have had over 20 events and have received amazing feedback from them all!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Man what, lol entrepreneurship is never a smooth road! When I had my first rooftop event downtown Detroit, it was a hit! We had a great time and I thought I was going to release memberships a few months later. HA! nope. At that time, I did not fully understand what it took to run and develop a viable business. I took a step back and applied to all the top small business programs in the city and got accepted to them all. I also had many people question me about our name due to Detroit-Vs-Everybody, but let me assure you Millennials-Vs-Everybody is REGISTERED TRADEMARK and we are not in the same industry! I have learned soooo much about business, legal teams, business plans and networking and now, two years later I am finally ready to release memberships. Millennials-Vs-Everybody has memberships for millennials, business coaches/ professionals and nonprofits. God is the greatest. He is my source of it all. I am so very blessed that he placed this on my heart and I am just executing what was given to me by him.
Millennials-Vs-Everybody actually had an event called “The Challenges of Entrepreneurship: Physical and Mental Health Realities”. This is a great question because often time people do not know what comes along with following your dreams, depending on faith and taking the journey of entrepreneurship. Great question!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with MILLENNIALS-VS-EVERYBODY – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
MILLENNIALS-VS-EVERYBODY (MVE) is a membership-based social enterprise that empowers and equips millennials with the intellectual tools, professional resources, and civic engagement opportunities to achieve greater lives.
At MVE, we produce organized and actionable content for millennials personal, professional and civic growth, we provide millennials the outlet to connect to social causes they care most about, and curate substantive relationships and community for our members through events and workshops.
Once a month/or bi-monthly we hold workshops for millennials personal, professional and civic development and a community service event!
What sets us apart from others is our three-point holistic approach to millennial evolvement. We focus on personal, professional and civic development. We believe in having a well-rounded experience. If you are trying to grow personally/mentally, we have resources for you. If you are trying to change your career or improve financially, we have resources for you. If you are tired of having twitter fingers and actually want to create social change and connect with nonprofits, we have resources for you!
My most proud moment of the company is truly the testimonials I get from our audience. My goal is to affect just one person per event, I mean really everyone but one is just fine. People have changed their careers, fought addiction, made money, gotten internships, began business with social causes and have even been more inspired to vote and create social change.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am so excited for the future! We are expanding our team, releasing memberships, hosting more events, going on an event tour (if COVID permits) and having a leadership retreat. There might be a TV show in the works as well, stay tuned! We have also won a huge grant in the city to support the relationships between millennials in nonprofits. Social change will be produced in a massive way! As CEO, it is important that MVE has a bit of me. (that rhymed, lol). I believe that everyone is born with a gift and a purpose. When God made me, He gifted me with my joyful spirit, tenacious legacy and the purpose to truly love my neighbors. My favorite quote is “We all want to be seen, we all want to know we matter. And the most you can ever do for somebody is to show up and allow them to know that they have been seen and heard by you” -Oprah Winfrey. This quote expresses what loving your neighbor looks like and speaks volumes to my everyday mission in life, to ensure people feel heard and seen by me. Through millennials’ involvement with MVE, they have a vehicle to affect social change and make their mark on the world.
