Today we’d like to introduce you to Naki Carey.
Naki, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got started in 2008 as a local model doing local fashion shows and events. They loved my runway walk so much, they ask me to be a runway instructor. So I started teaching models how to walk the runway correctly, I loved it so much that I started teaching my own classes and started to make a name for myself in the fashion world. Later on, while still teaching runway classes, I was playing in my room with 3D glasses and discovered a masterpiece. This is the time when Nicki Minaj and lady Gaga was new and hot and wore crazy fashions. I knew my bold designs had a place in the fashion industry. So I started making my bold and gaudy pieces and sending them out to celebs. Then that lead to blog features, online and in store magazines, And etc. Later I then started making clothes, that’s did very well. Of course sometimes, life can get the best of you, I fell in love, lost myself, and my business went down. I was lost and stuck for some years. Now in 2020, I’m revamping my brand, found new love and is working on a new accessories collection.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it always wasn’t a smooth ride. I was lost and stuck for a very long time. I had big dreams but didn’t know how to get there. So I continue to believe in myself, no matter if I was homeless, at one point, me thinking I couldn’t do it because I’m a transgender woman or just not having the money. I didn’t let none of that get in my way. I was very determined to make a dream a reality and Utilize the resources that were around me to make my vision come to life.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My business and brand is me being Lifestyle Content Creator/entrepreneur. Me being a lifestyle content creator, I focus on Fashion, Beauty, vlogging, travel, and everything lifestyle. While incorporating my brand (Naki Beauty). It has a twist to it, it’s an accessories brand, but when people see beauty, they’re going to think of cosmetics. But I added Beauty because beauty is more than makeup, it’s a feeling, a mood, a thought, and image. Beauty is how you feel on the inside while giving the world a visual. I believe you can do that with accessories, it all works together.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Hard work, dedication, passion, drive, the true love for something, the determination.
