Meet Jeff Addo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Addo.

Jeff, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in the church choir is where everything all began for me but funny enough, I wasn’t too interested in being apart of the choir at a young age. I was actually kicked out of the children’s choir oddly enough, years later to actually becoming a singer it’s crazy how the world works. Also, another funny story of how I came onto the music scene was in 2010 snowstorm in my city what I did was I called 10-15 girls and told them to let me sing on their voicemail. I was able to get great reviews from them which sparked my confidence of chasing music. My mother who grew up in West Africa in the country of Ghana was a singer growing up and my older brother (Artist & Producer Named Prah Di Jay) and I were gifted with her musical talents. I have had the honor of being on BET, MTV, Music Choice, Fox 5, ABC 7, CBS and many more with hard work & consistency. Being consistent is something that is truly something important when you’re trying to chase your dreams and being comfortable with hearing constructive criticism from peers is also a key factor in growth. I am looking forward to the many more blessings coming my way and with God, Family and a strong support system anything is possible.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a very bumpy road from fall promises, fake manager who sold multiple dreams and never come through and so much more. In 2013 I auditioned for the popular show called “X Factor” which I traveled all the way to Denver but I was knocked out in the early round. When I came home from that experience, I was devastated but it was a blessing in disguise because a week later, I was on a very popular radio show in the DMV called 93.9 WKYS so God turned my sadness into a blessing. Being an independent artist in general has its struggles because you basically have to fend for yourself and push a lot harder than signed artists but nothing in life comes easy so I make it happen daily. Also in 2016, many don’t know but I was battling depression and anxiety which caused me to not any music for four years in which I made my strong comeback in 2019 and have been flying ever since which is a blessing.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a musician and my artist’s name is J.Addo which I sing all over in which I chase my dreams everyday. I am very proud of all the accomplishments I have made thus far not many can say they’ve been on BET, MTV, Music Choice, etc. but I do know to never settle, never get comfortable and to keep on working hard. I believe what sets me apart from most musicians is my versatility. I am able to get on an R&B record, R&B soul record and also an Afrobeat’s record and not miss a beat.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start all over, I would tell the younger me to build my craft, take your time and never feel pressure from others to get things done. As people, it’s very important to know that we run our own race at our own pace and we control our destiny by the decisions that we make on a daily. Also, I would not focus on girls so much *laughs* and focus more on my craft. But you know what they say, “It’s better late than never” so I am definitely happy where I am at musically on my journey and plan to do so much more.
