Meet Christopher Deon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Deon.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started as a young boy in the church playing drums. I consider myself to have been a percussionist since then. I was so well versed in the snare that I was playing in the high school band while I was still in middle school at Ralph J Bunch. I decided to go to North Atlanta High for music. While in high school, I was interested in taking up theatre as well.

I soon realized that I hated Shakespeare and dropped out of the class and decided to stick to music, for the time being, so I stayed in the band. In the band, we always watched Morris Brown because some of my band instructors had played there. I was so interested in the school that I applied and received a scholarship to play in the band. I actually played in the famous Drumline movie. While in high school, I also met a group of friends who were into music just as I was. We started a production company and I was a composer for the company. I fell in love with composing and began making my own music and to this day, I still do. I hope to compose music for several films in the future.

After filming Drumline, I was interested in acting again. I began to do background work and decided to start training. While training and still continuing background, I was asked by someone to read for a role in a series called Side Chick. Since then, I have been continuing to work, train, audition, and have landed several lead roles and supporting roles in short films, feature films, and web series. I am now currently working on another series which is also a lead role and I hope to see it on the big screen soon.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been smooth at all. I lost my father when I was nine years old. My mother did the best she could with raising and teaching two boys how to be great men. Most of that, I had to teach myself. In August 2016, my mother fell ill. This illness caused her to lose both limbs and her left toes. I honestly had no idea in regards to what I was going to do next, all I knew was my mother’s health and wellbeing was my number one priority. I had to stop all pursuits of my acting career in regards to auditions, traveling, turning down roles, everything you could think of in an actor’s life was all put on hold. Once I learned how to care for my mother and delegate some of the tasks that I do for her to my brother and other family members that were willing to help, it was time to figure out how I can get back on the actor’s scene. It was hard trying to figure this out. I had to pull old connections and build new connections. I also had to market myself. It was a great struggle that I overcame and the lesson I took from that was it taught me to have patience.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would’ve started my training young and took the craft more seriously when I had the opportunity, also I’ve always wanted to study in a different state or maybe study abroad.
