Meet Kristopher Stepps, MD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristopher Stepps, MD.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kristopher. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
By God’s grace, I am writing to you as a 35 year old African American male Physician. I typed that sentence proudly as this journey has been no yellow brick road. Growing up in Southern Arkansas, opportunities and resources are limited to go beyond certain socioeconomic standards. If there was no legacy/model to specifically guide your journey, the odds were heavily stacked against you to create a lineage of wealth and prosperity. As a product of this environment, I am cognizant of the many pitfalls that one can fall into as they attempt to defy the stereotyped path invisibly set before them. As a product of this environment, I can offer astute guidance on avoiding imposter syndrome and a dubious self-image. Having these many negative experiences I chose to use as positive fuel, it was heavy on my heart to stand up and make a difference in the lives of future success stories. I started SteppsMD, LLC as a beacon of light for those with dream and passion, but not the roadmap to make that a reality

SteppsMD, LLC, formed through various experiences with leadership and motivational speaking tours. I have always stood firm on being an advocate for those behind me aspiring to change their current circumstances. I spent time counseling High School students on the treacherous pressures of violence and promiscuity. I devoted time to counseling college students on the importance of prioritizing and balancing work and play. Even while wading through the perilous path of Medical school, I ensured time to mentor those behind that you are meant to be here and that you have the confidence to survive. Coupling these experiences along with a strong support team believing in me, I decided to take my personal journey to the masses with prayers of motivating that person who’s on the brink of giving up. Motivating that person who does not think they have what it takes to defy the odds. I want to help others nurture their god-given talents to enhance this world we call home. Simply put, SteppsMD, LLC, wants to be the change we see in the world.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Getting to this brink of SteppsMD’s discovery was no smooth ride. It came with many detours before ending back on the right path to destiny. SteppsMD’s founding was centered around my journey to become a physician. In a quick summary, I encountered multiple shortcomings to achieve this dream I am now living. I applied to medical school three times before successful admission. I took the entrance exam five times. I even went through two years of post-baccalaureate studies to improve my application.

I refused to give up on what was burning with desire on the inside. You would think that the struggle would ease up after finally getting accepted. Nope, I wish. I found out that more intestinal fortitude would be needed to survive medical school, which was another different journey in itself. But ironically, it was these struggles/shortcomings (because I won’t ever consider myself a failure), that shaped me into the motivational machine I am today. These obstacles served as a diary of experiences to pass down as a roadmap of unorthodox success for those who may not have the “status quo” life. Those obstacles were a blessing I never knew I needed.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
What I am most proud of as the owner of SteppsMD is the wonderful people I get to call teammates. This could never have come to fruition if it had not been for God binding our faiths together. I love them immensely and happy that we are pushing each other to new heights beyond our current circumstances. They are content with putting me out in the forefront and yet give me unconditional love. With that, I must give them a huge shout out in making this dream a reality! God bless them! SteppsMD will be what it becomes because of its amazing commitment. We are currently impacting lives we would never have come into contact with if SteppsMD was not in existence. We all are proud of that.
