Today we’d like to introduce you to Kira Williams.
Kira, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In the words of Fredrick Douglass, “it’s easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” I live and breathe this statement as an educator and now tutor. K Tutoring Services was birthed because of the main problems I continue to see in underprivilege and minority schools. Several minority children are left behind, are not reading on grade level, or the students need to be challenged and enriched.
My eyes were first opened to this problem while in college at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). I was a substitute teacher in Broward County and even taught at an alternative private school for grades K-8. I then went on to become a teacher in Broward County, FL and now I am a proud teacher in DeKalb County. Being in these various schools, I saw the same problem. My solution was the birthing of K Tutoring Services in 2018. It has allowed me to help students succeed in these environments.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to my journey has not been smooth. I’ve battled with purpose vs. profit, fear, doubt, and overthinking. It is a constant struggle, but the rewards that you get from seeing students progress is worth more than money. The driving force in this field is educating the heart and mind of the child. Once that happens, the profit arises on all forefronts. Now, I find myself questioning why didn’t I start sooner. The struggles assure your promise and cultivate your purpose.

K Tutoring Services is a high-quality in-home tutorial company for grades K-8 in the subjects of Math and Reading. The purpose of our company is to bridge the gap between the schools and the community. We understand that as education has evolved, so has the need for support among ALL stakeholders. Our goal is to ensure that parents understand the demands needed for their child to be successful academically, socially, emotionally, and mentally.
K Tutoring Services is MOST proud of how we have been able to increase student’s academic levels while mentoring the child. Our company focuses on ensuring that the whole child’s needs are met. We love academics, but we take time to put in real-life experiences, conversations, and life lessons.

God gets all the credit, glory, and honor! however, he has surrounded me with some amazing people in my life. My mother and father have planted seeds of achievement, purpose, and striving for excellence. My mother has stayed up talking, planning things with me, and praying for me. I could never take her for granted. My uncles and aunts have been very supportive as well. Their values have allowed me to connect and align with great people and mentors in the world.
My friends, Kayla and Brianna, have been very supportive and helped boost my confidence when I was struggling to start. Finally, I want to thank my mentors. Mrs. Graham-Richardson, who pours her soul into me as a teacher and a person. It has influenced how I educate my clients and who I am. Finally, I wanted to thank Ms. Levine, who has donated a ton of supplies and educational resources. Without these amazing people, I wouldn’t be who or where I am today!
