Today we’d like to introduce you to B.J. Pointer.
B.J., can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I caught the bug in 2011 when a landlord offered me reduced rent in exchange for fixing up one of his vacant apartments. I’ve been painting and doing home renovations off and on ever since. My mother needed her rental property painted, and I needed a paint sprayer to start my business. I painted her house in exchange for the paint sprayer and here we are! Pointer’s painting was supposed to be a supplemental income to my job as a sales manager. But, with the blessing of consistent customers, and our passion for painting and customer service. I quit my job and haven’t looked back!!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing worth having comes easy. We started a business during the middle of a pandemic. Which definely impacted us getting our business license, business banking account, and our insurance. Serveral vendors who make marketing material where not shipping, so we started out making our own marketing materials. Everything has been a grind, but we are doing it! We wouldnt have it any other way!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Pointer’s Painting – what should we know?
Pointer’s painting is a family-owned and operated company that provides several home renovation services. We specialize in interior/exterior painting, pressure washing, tub refinishing, drywall repair, and more. Our customers and fellow business owners are what sets us apart. The referrals that they generate have been been vital to our success. It gives us immense pride to know that our work is appreciated enough for someone to mention our name when they hear an opportunity.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My dad michael pointer turns 71 in january, and he outworks men in their 30’s. He deserves a large amount of credit. In addition to his labor he works directly with customers in sales. My wife chassity pointer handles the social media content. My brother brian pointer, nephew drick evans and my cousin cedric embry round out our current crew and they all handle labor and marketing. Last but not least our customers!!!!! We would not be here without you! Shout to our first interior painting customer the arnold’s, our first exterior painting customer the hough’s, and our first pressurewashing customer the cornielious’s.
