Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian and Shardé Blount.
Brian and Shardé, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far?
We are high school sweethearts married for twelve years now, and we have three boys. We moved to Atlanta from Virginia in 2014, knowing we were led by God, but not for certain the purpose. Together we’ve always had a passion to encourage others. We all have a story (testimony), and end of summer 2019, God gave a word “I AM” for us to share through a brand. In life’s journey, our faith wasn’t tested by trials but THROUGH trials. We always needed a Word to get us through. This birthed a different perception of our identity in Christ. Identity is the foundation of life. Who you view yourself as determines your lifestyle.
For many of us “who am I?” is an unanswered question we look for in many things, except for the One who created us in his image and likeness. This was a struggle we not only recognized in ourselves but others as well. This is what gave passion to His Word I AM. We wanted to be intentional through this brand to be walking billboards of God’s Word. His Word I AM is not just a brand but a lifestyle. We don’t want to only walk around claiming Christ, but for our lives to constantly reflect Christ, hence “not just a brand, but a lifestyle.”
Starting in our home, we made and tested our own products and began selling fall of 2019. We had grown so fast in such a short time, we successfully launched the website for His Word I AM January 2020! We got to where we are today by being diligent, walking by faith, and working closely together as husband and wife. God has definitely exceeded our expectations of where we thought it would be in just one year. We are thankful!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth having comes easy. We completely started from scratch, learning as we went. Researching apparel companies, choosing quality over quantity in wholesale, what designs worked & what didn’t, and building a website was all new to us. It has been a faith walk, and we’ve definitely had trials and errors. We appreciate those because we learn and grow from them. We’ve also encountered bulk orders for special occasions like events or holidays. We do what’s required to fulfill orders big or small. As husband and wife we are solely running His Word I AM as a family with our sons. It can be challenging while managing one of us working a full-time job, being parents to three boys, and homeschooling. We’ve learned to not do it all by our strength, but through God, who gives us strength. We started with a vision, and God ordered every step. We know that whatever God calls for He provides for.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about His Word I AM – what should we know?
His Word I AM is Inspired by a passionate pursuit of identity. Behind every design is scripture to remind, inspire, and encourage all of us in God’s Word. We are walking billboards to not only be a reminder to ourselves but to others of who we are in Christ. Our specialty is apparel, which includes t-shirts, hats, hoodies, sweatshirts, and much other different apparel to come. We are known to inspire and encourage. There are MANY different faith based brands, but what sets us apart is that we aren’t just a brand you wear for swag, although we definitely add swag, our goal is to encourage a lifestyle in Christ. Its a conversation starter to open the door to share a testimony through a word (design). You need to have a solid foundation in anything you are building. This brand is built on the foundation of God’s Word
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most important qualities/characteristics we feel is most important to success is having purpose, conviction, vision, passion, and inspiration.
