Thanks for sharing your story with us Leia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Urban Empress Lifestyle was created to support Black women in their healing and spiritual practice. Our mantra is fierce, fine, and FREE. I started Urban Empress Lifestyle as a part of my own healing. I am the survivor of a rare skin condition called Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS). What the hell is that Leia? It is a debilitating, chronic and inflammatory skin condition that affects all your intimate areas. I was diagnosed at 18, told to apply for disability at 23 and had a miraculous reconstructive surgery at 38.
This was my point of departure if you will. My recovery from a 20 plus year illness that made me believe I was unloved, unwanted, unprotected, and most of all, unhealable. Soon after my surgery, I was initiated into the Bantu-Congo religion, Palo Mayombe. I am a priestess in this Afro-Cuban tradition, and it is where all my gifts have reemerged, my self-esteem was refortified, and my business was born. My gifts include mediumship, tarot reading, creating spiritual condition soaps, sprays, and baths for my clients. I take my practice very seriously because the liberation, through spiritual praxis, of other women, especially Black women, is very important to me.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a smooth road because whenever I was unemployed due to my health, I studied other entrepreneurs at local FREE workshops and volunteered at conferences to get access to the gurus in their respective fields. I do not have an anecdotal story of sleeping in my car or anything traumatic. My trauma began at 18 when I was diagnosed with HS and told it was incurable and would get worse over my lifetime. My struggles have been physical limitations and the depression that comes with chronic illness. The biggest struggle was telling people about my health because I was embarrassed and ashamed. Once I overcame that struggle, I was able to relocate to Atlanta, find an amazing doctor, create some healthy practices, have a life altering surgery, find a spiritual path and community, help other women with self-esteem, self-worth and self-image issues begin their healing journey.

I am your Intuitive Conversational Life Coach. I am a spiritual medium – I introduce people to their spirit guides and relay verbatim messages from their guides and ancestors (passed loves ones) when they come through. I am also a tarot and oracle card reader. I love to help people identify their blocks and challenges and prescribe recipes for success. As a Priestess of Palo Mayombe, the most important part of our practice is “healing and justice.” Here at Urban Empress I am devoted to helping women make better decisions — and lead happier lives through healing and divination. Urban Empress Lifestyle allows you to be ratchet and righteous, liberated and fierce, empowered and empowering. I believe our ancestors are our Hansel & Gretel on this plane of existence. I love the pulse of the city. I love the history of the city. I love the food, the culture, and the people. I HATE THE TRAFFIC! LOL, we all hate the traffic.
