Today we’d like to introduce you to Deidra Jefferson Poe.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Deidra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born and raised in Northern California, I began braiding at the age of 13. Throughout high school I braided my classmates hair as a hobby.
After graduating from high school in 2008 I attended Marinello School of Beauty where I received a certificate of completion and obtained my Master Cosmetology licensing for the state of California .
In 2015 I moved to Georgia to further my career in the hair industry and start a new beginning . I had the chance to work for a well-known salon, appear on reality TV and travel to different cities to service clientele.
It was all a wonderful learning experience and it inspired me to go on my own path.
In 2018, I started GorgeousBraidsbyDee in order to provide quality hair care and a professional braiding experience to women all over Atlanta and travel to other cities and do the same.
Based in Sandy Springs Ga, I offer hair care services to a wide range of happy clients from all over Atlanta at affordable rates.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been challenging at times as a business owner … As someone who likes to do everything themselves it can be a bit overwhelming. But now I’m learning to use my resources, make connections with my peers and seek out mentorship. Doing those things allow me more space to focus on creating, learning and gaining new skills to better my business.

Gorgeous Braids by Dee is all about braids and other protective styles, such as goddess locs and twists. We specialize in extensions; all of our braid services have hair included. We are best known for box braids and our Gorgeous Twists, which is a signature style.
As a company we are most proud of the exceptional customer service, quality of work and reliability. At Gorgeous Braids by Dee you get a one on one experience in a private space where you can relax and unwind or even in the comfort of your own home while getting your hair braided in less than five hours. The braiding experience is painless, no pulling and tugging and your

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood would have to be the day that I started to do my own hair. That’s where I learned the skills to braid. My grandmother would do my hair in these ugly ponytails for a little girl, I believe I was about 12 years old. She then began to get my hair braided professionally which was great, but I had to leave the styles in for the longest period of time to where I looked very crazy. So one day I just said “forget this I’m gonna do my own hair “I tried it, it worked! and that’s how this journey began.
